UPGRADE IOS XE TO IOS XE SDWAN

Current SDWAN-image file is c1100-universalk9.V172_1RES5.SPA.bin

Download the file from the dropbox link below and copy it to a FAT32 formatted USB KEY

1. Connect Internet connection to the WAN port 0/0/0.

2. Configure interface to use DHCP

router#conf t
router(config)#interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0
router(config-if)#ip address dhcp
router(config-if)#end
router#write

This will give the interface 0/0/0 a dhcp ip address

3. Copy the XE SD-WAN Image to the routers bootflash

router#dir usb0:

c1100-universalk9.V172_1RES5.SPA.bin

Copy the file name above and paste it instead of trying to write the file name

router#copy usb0:c1100-universalk9.V172_1RES5.SPA.bin bootflash:


(enter)
Press enter again to confirm

Now run the commands below:

router#conf t
router(config)#no boot system
router(config)#end
router#write memory

4. Verify that the BOOT variable is blank in the following output:

router#sh bootvar
BOOT variable =
CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist
BOOTLDR variable does not exist
Configuration register is 0x2102
Standby not ready to show bootvar

Run the commands below

router#conf t
router(config)#boot system flash bootflash:c1100-
universalk9.V172_1RES5.SPA.bin
router(config)#end
router#write memory

5. Verify that the BOOT variable points to the new XE SD-WAN image:

Router# show bootvar


BOOT variable = bootflash: c1100-universalk9.V172_1RES5.SPA.bin;
CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist
BOOTLDR variable does not exists
Configuration register is 0x2102
Standby not ready to show bootvar

router#write erase

router#reload
Proceed with reload? [confirm] Yes
If prompted to save the configuration, enter No.
The router reboots with the XE SD-WAN image.

when it reloads it will start the pnpa discovery do not press any keys as its cancels this. wait
for it to reload

Once it reloads t will prompt you for a username and password , you need to change it , its
admin for all

admin
admin
admin
admin

you will get a router prompt like this (type enable)

Router>
Router>enable

The run this command

Router#request platform software sdwan software reset

This reloads the router again and it comes up with the new sd wan version and is ready to
be managed by Cisco V-Manage.
