Task 6
Grammar is structure, rules, formula, pattern. Grammar is the mortar of the language while
vocabulary is the bricks. Associations- tenses, spelling, contractions, parts of speech, homonyms,
homophones, clauses, run-ons, writing,
communication.
Task 7
Check the appropriate box.
Task 8
How can I explain why we say it that way if I don't know the grammar myself? Just knowing the
right way to do it isn't enough, I need to know the reason behind it. The students can't differentiate
between what sounds 'right' and doesn't, you need to tell them. And they need to understand why it's
that way. They have to play by the grammar rules, even though you don't.
You can't teach it if you don't know it and what you can fuzzily remember from high school won't cut
it. Can you explain the difference between should, could, and would to someone who has no common
point of reference for those words? Your explaination won't even be in their language. It's not like
explaining it to a native speaking child who can think around your explaination and using what they
already know, learn from context. The ESL students have no context, you must give it to them. That
is grammar.
