READING
Read the emails about computer habits.
Dear Editor,
I don’t have a computer and I don’t plan to buy one. I don’t use email or search engines. I write letters and mail them to
my friends and family at the post office. I buy my books at the local bookstore … and they’re made of paper. When I
have to pay a bill, I go to the bank and talk to a real person. I do my shopping at the shopping mall and when I want to
play games, I get together with my friends at their houses and we play together.
Some people say I’m old-fashioned. Maybe I am, but I spend a lot of time outside in the sun, walking and meeting real
people. I don’t plan to join the “digital generation.” I’m very happy with my life as it is.

Dear Editor,
I don’t understand my parents. They refuse to buy a computer and they aren’t interested when I take my laptop over
to their house to try to teach them to use it. They waste so much time walking to the bank or shopping at the shopping
mall. They could do all of it online. I want them to join a social networking site so I can show them pictures of their
grandchildren, but they say they prefer me to print out the pictures and bring them over.
I don’t spend my life online, but I think it makes my life easier and gives me more time to do things I enjoy. Sometimes I
play games online and I’ve made some great friends who don’t even live in this country. Last year I visited one of my
online friends in Brazil. We had a great time together. How can I convince my parents to be more modern?
