Fashion

I. Pre listening
Fashion is a general term for a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear,
accessories, makeup, body piercing, or furniture. Fashion refers to a distinctive and often
habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses or to prevailing styles in behavior.
Fashion also refers to the newest creations of textile designers. The more technical term
costume has become so linked to the term "fashion" that the use of the former has been
relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while "fashion" means
clothing more generally, including the study of it. Although aspects of fashion can be
feminine or masculine, some trends are androgynous.

Wearing the right clothing for the proper occasion is important. However, cultural rules in
other countries might be different from your own.

A 'brand name person' only buys clothes from famous shops or designers. Notice the
following.
1. I buy most of my clothes at the Gap or Giordano, so I guess I'm a brand name
person.
2. My sister spends all her money on brand name clothes.

- That's not my style.
Clothes we don't feel comfortable wearing are not our style. Here are two samples.

Clothes that 'fit into a mold' are all the same style. Notice the samples.

When we do something from scratch, we buy the materials and make it ourselves. Here are
some samples.

- I buy fabric at a craft store.
A craft store sells materials and tools used for making creative things. Notice the
following.
1. We can buy materials to make the party decorations at the craft store.
2. She buys pieces of fabric at the craft store.

C. Listen to an interview with a male top model who is talking about his career. To
