There are some places in the world that lacks agriculture and not just in financial growth

but also to its development. Whether if its dry season where every price of the crops increase

significantly high or rainy season which makes the plant unhealthy. Hence, an automatic

watering plant that works both in the rainy season and the dry season is necessary to design.

The device used a microcontroller chip programmed based on the detection of agricultural soil

moisture sensors. When the soil was dry, the device automatically watered the plants.

Conversely, if the soil was wet, the device would not water them. It led to healthy plants because

the need for water had been fulfilled all the time.

Automated watering systems are popular these days because not only does it have

relation to farming but also to gardening. A lot of machine designs are popping off and people

are getting innovative in order for the green planet to be healthy. Modern watering systems

could be effectively used to water plants when they need it. But this manual process of watering

requires two important aspects to be considered: when and how much to water. In order to

replace manual activities and making gardener's work easier, we have create automatic plant

watering system. By adding automated plant watering system to your garden or agricultural

field, you will help all of your plants reach their fullest potential as well as conserving water.

Using sprinklers drip emitters, or a combination of both, we can design a system that is ideal for

every plant in our yard. For implementation of automatic plant watering system, we have used

combination of sprinkler systems, pipes, and nozzles. This project uses the ATmega328

microcontroller. It is programmed to sense moisture level of plants at particular instance of time,

if the moisture content is less than specified threshold which is predefined according to

particular plant's water need then desired amount of water is supplied till it reaches threshold.

Generally, plants need to be watered twice a day, morning and evening. Thus, the

microcontroller is programmed to water plants two times per day. System is designed in such a

way that it reports its current state as well as remind the user to add water to the tank. All this
notifications are made through mobile application. We hope that through this prototype we all

can enjoy having plants, without being worried about absent or forgetfulness.

In an automatic watering program sensors are the basis in order for the researcher to get

enough information about the subject plant or crops. Getting data from the plants itself carefully

observing day and night to have such result in improving a pleasant news. Soil moisture

sensors measure the volumetric water content in soil. Since the direct gravimetric measurement

of free soil moisture requires removing, drying, and weighting of a sample, soil moisture sensors

measure the volumetric water content indirectly by using some other property of the soil, such

as electrical resistance, dielectric constant, or interaction with neutrons, as a proxy for the

moisture content. The relation between the measured property and soil moisture must be

calibrated and may vary depending on environmental factors such as soil type, temperature, or

electric conductivity. Reflected microwave radiation is affected by the soil moisture and is used

for remote sensing in hydrology and agriculture. Portable probe instruments can be used by

farmers or gardeners.

It is really convenient to the owners to get notified if such problems occur on to their

plants which is why sensors are built to get the right data. To have such data even companies

are investing on application type models for notification systems and to improve data analysis.

Soil moisture related to water content which a factor that affects the plant growth. The process

of watering plants is generally done manually regardless of the volume of water needed by

plants. This research discussed about an automated prototype and a system that have the

function of watering plants based on the soil moisture level. The method used is prototyping

which is suitable with the research purpose. The prototype and systems built with

microcontroller, soil moisture sensors, relay and solenoid valve, which integrated with the IoT

platform Blynk apps and Thingspeak. The process starts from the detection of soil moisture by

the sensor. If soil moisture value is detected on 30% - 35%, then the device activates the
watering function by opening the valve from the solenoid valve to drain water to the pipe. When

the soil moisture detected more then 35% , the device stops the watering function. ThingSpeak

IoT platform, used to display moisture percentage data in graphical form. Blynk apps provide

notification features to the user's smartphone when the watering device is activated or

deactivated. Based on the test scenario performed, it was found that the percentage of soil

moisture with an initial value of 30% - 35% increased to 68.2%, after the watering process. Each

component of the device and system has been tested and functioning according to the purpose,

so the system has the potential to be used in the process of watering the plants automatically.

Many companies had already produce each of their own design for plant irrigation

system and also on areas improvement with such vast knowledge. Through experience and

experiment there are areas within the coverage that still need on improvement which electricity

and in order for to be friendly and healthy on environment solar power is introduce. In the

irrigation system, frequent watering of plants is needed based on the requirement. Sufficient

watering is to be done to the plants for good growth of plants in the irrigation. The frequent

monitoring of soil status is needed for good yield in the fields. The proposed model of Solar

Powered Automatic watering system consists of Soil Moisture sensor which senses the Soil

moisture condition, A Solar Powered Electric Motor which makes the water pump to pump the

water and an Embedded Controller is used to achieve the automatic watering operation to the

plants. The moisture in the soil is sensed and based on which the motor operation takes place.

Working status of the electric motor is monitored using Bluetooth Connectivity and LCD display.

This system is environment- friendly and cost effective.
