Exercise #1- Taking Stock 1

A role I want my work to play in my life is something that I love to do, something that

will pay for my bills and provide food on the table. Tolerating a job which you do not love,

working day and night but not getting desired results to make you less motivated towards your

job and that does affect not only your work but also your social life, personal life, and

professional life. There’s a quote that goes “Choose A Job You Love, And You Will Never Have

to Work A Day in Your Life.” Finding happiness and fulfillment in my job is important to me.

By choosing a job that you enjoy doing, it will not seem like much work at all. I want to seek a

meaningful career that will allow me to be a role model for my family and others as well. I want

to be able to do something more significant with my life and build a better future for myself. I

want to be able to influence others and make a change in the world positively. Something I want

my work to involve to make it fulfilling to me is children. I’ve been working with children ever

since I started working, beginning with babysitting, being a coach and moving through to

becoming something that involves working with children. I have a genuine passion for children;

something about their youthful energy and unique imaginations strikes a playful note inside me. I

grew up a responsible big sister to my younger sister and several younger cousins making me a

natural caretaker and an excellent role model. When choosing a career, personal fulfillment is

more important than salary. If employees are happy with what they are doing, then they will

want to come to work each day. On the other hand, those who do not enjoy their jobs dread each

long working day. Money is not an essential thing in life to me. An individual who chooses to
pursue a job that pays more money rather than the career of their dreams will eventually become

miserable and wish that they had explored their true career interests. However, through my

career choice, I hope to achieve a job that is both interesting and rewarding.

My current view of what my life should be about is working at a company that offers an

exciting environment to work in. Then I hope I will be close to married and preparing myself to

start a family. I am not sure how many kids I plan on having, but probably no more than three. I

plan on being financially comfortable which includes owning my car and home. I know

throughout my life I will always continue to be close with my family, so I’m hoping that I

always live in close distance of my parents and my sister. I will also be pursuing the hobbies that

I like, for example, writing. I will be writing and developing a novel that will mirror my life, my

aspirations, and my thoughts on the universe. It will be a book that will touch so many lives. And

it will be a book that can give a lot of people hope for the future. I will also like to help my

community in any way possible. I see myself as a helpful and giving person. I love to help

people that are in need. I would like to see myself so smart and intelligent that I can get every

opportunity that comes knocking at my door. I had a plan to be a teacher. I love kids, and that’s

the next big thing for me. You always should have a plan B just in case your first plan doesn’t

work out. I love to teach people things now that I know, and they might not now. I love to help

solve problems and tasks. I love being educated so I would love to do the same to someone else.

I would like to teach Pre-school and Kindergarten. Their minds are so young, and they can

process information well when they’re young. I would like to open up my little school.

Education is the key to success and without education where would we be today or tomorrow or

next week or next year. School is where we get our education and me being a teacher I can keep

learning new information every day as well. So, these fields are where I hope to be. What is most
import to me in life is helping people because it's good to do good deeds for others. It's good to

help because it makes me feel good about myself. I also give importance to each and everyone

around me. My loved one’s happiness and fulfillment are more important than my own because I

always put others first before myself. I don’t think it will be difficult to reconcile my work view

and my life view because if I do become a teacher or help the community in some way, I’m

seeking a meaningful career that will allow me to be a role model for my family and others

around me. I would have a calling to do something more significant with my life and to build a

better future for myself. If I do become a teacher, I would also have time to write my book and

help the community in many ways.
