Design a Line
1. On the appropriate page, insert a sketch for each principle or element specified in the assignment.
2. Enter information about the sketch in the top left cell of the table.
3. Insert a digital fabric "swatch" and describe the fabric in the bottom left cell of the table. Explain why the fabric is
appropriate for the design.

What is your theme?

A mix of both cooler temperature, fall designs, as well as a few fancier formal dress designs.

Color Scheme
Insert your Color Scheme sketch to the
right.

How does this tie into your theme?

The thick, wool coat ties in with colder
weather wear. As well as fancier dress.
Design details (at least 2):
Set in sleeves, and from the waist seam
down on the coat, it has the same shape
as a circle skirt.
What is unique?
The most unique part about this design
is the collar on the white shirt. It is
folded down, and crosses over with a
single button holding it down. This collar
doesn’t have a name because it’s not any
standard collar shape known.
What is the color scheme and what
colors are used to create it?
The color scheme is mostly triadic.
Comprising of crimson red, golden
yellow, and navy blue. Also accented
with white and gray.

Insert digital fabric swatch below.

Describe the fabric.
The coat is a high quality, thick red wool
with a smooth touch to it similar to how
expensive cashmere is soft.
Why is this fabric appropriate for your
design?
This design was literally created as a
fancy outfit for a wealthy character. So it
would have to be created with high-end

fabric that could not simply be found at
a thrift store. The smooth, thick wool
creates a sense of warmth and high
quality.

Structural Lines
Insert your Structural Lines sketch to the
right.

How does this tie into your theme?

Beanie, scarf, and coat are parts of
cooler weather wear.
Design details (at least 2):
Notched collar on coat, and regular fit
pants.
What is unique?
Most (blue) wool coats are made with
black or brown buttons. This coat,
however, uses brass buttons to stand out
more against the blue fabric.
Which lines are predominant and what
effect does that have on the garment?
The most prominent lines are created by
the coat flap line where it would open,
the double line of buttons takes the eye
down the coat, and the pant crease on
each leg also takes the eye down the
outfit.
Insert digital fabric swatch below.
Describe the fabric.
Coat made with smooth textured, blue
wool fabric with microfiber lining.
Why is this fabric appropriate for your
design?
This outfit was designed to be worn in
NYC. Because NY is located farther north,
fall and winter tend to be chillier. So the
wool is good for keeping warm. Wool is
also a highly breathable fabric, so this
jacket COULD be worn in slight warmer
weather as well. All season made jacket
that provides functionality as well as
year round style.

Asymmetrical Balance
Insert your Asymmetrical Balance sketch to
the right.

How does this tie into your theme?

Cozy hoodie fits into the fall temperature
Design details (at least 2):
Off the shoulder sleeves, and straight leg capri
pants.
What is unique?
The design of created on the hoodie, and the
opposite colored shoes.
How asymmetrical balance achieved in the
garment?
The upper left corner of the hoodie is purple,
while the right is golden yellow. It balances
out by then making the left sleeve yellow and
the right sleeve purple to match the opposite
color of the shoulder. The shoes are also
asymmetrical from the left and right of the
body as a whole because the left shoe is red
with a black tongue, and the right shoe is
black with a red tongue.
Insert digital fabric swatch below.
Describe the fabric.
Golden yellow, knit fabric with fleece textured
inside.
Why is this fabric appropriate for your
design?
The top part of the outfit is a hoodie, and
most hoodies that are made for fall/winter
weather are created with this soft,
cotton/poly blend fabric.

Focal Point
Insert your Focal Point sketch to the right.

How does this tie into your theme?

Long sleeves and jacket, and boots for
cooler weather.
Design details (at least 2):
V-Neck shirt, and skinny jean pants
What is unique?
Most men’s clothing doesn’t incorporate
knee-length tall boots.
Where is the focal point?
The focal point lies on the torso of the
body. The entirety of the outfit is darker
colored, which makes the single yellow
color pop. On this particular body, the
structure is muscular. So the yellow color
draws your eye to the skin tight shirt
where upper body definition is
prominent.
Insert digital fabric swatch below.
Describe the fabric.
Deep Aegean blue suede with the
signature velvet texture.
Why is this fabric appropriate for your
design?
Both the jacket and the boots would be
made with this blue suede fabric. Most of
the time, suede is used for dress shoes.
Tying in a suede jacket would also
include a look of formality.

Rhythm
Insert your Rhythm sketch to the right.

How does this tie into your theme?

Fancy dress wear for snazzy millionaire
style
Design details (at least 2):
Unbuttoned, straight point collar, and
slim fit pants.
What is unique?
Most formal vests are made with buttons
down one side to give an option of
closure, and would create a deep v shape
when closed. This vest is specifically
made to be open, so it has no buttons,
and does NOT have the slant shape to
each side that would create a v shape if
closed. The vest line flows straight down
from the shoulders.
What type of rhythm did you illustrate?
What effect does it have on the
garment?
Rhythm through repetition. Both the
fedora and pants have navy blue. The
coral band on the hat matches with the
coral tie. The black vest matches the
black shoes, and even the hair color. The
soles of the shoes are white, which ties
with the white belt, and the white plaid
on the fedora. (And in THIS particular
case, the white shirt, as well.) The effect
is gives is that it ties the entire outfit
together in a sense of unity.
Insert digital fabric swatch below.
Describe the fabric.
Shiny, rose coral silk with a sheen texture
finish.
Why is this fabric appropriate for your
design?
One way that it fits is silk is a higher
quality, expensive fabric that ties in with
wealthier clothing. Another is the shiny
look of silk gives a necktie a fancier, more
formal look than one made of cotton.
