Materials and logistics management

12 TH PROJECT OUTLINE

 Research paper will be a group work, 4 members each group under one condition to have

online work or online meetings through zoom or emails (work between teams) NO

GATHERINGS.

 When you choose your topic or a company to work on as a group there should be NO

duplicated companies for example, you can choose the inventory management (will be

explained later in each phase of the project) and same subtitles but it’s a must to

change the company that you will apply your topic on as well as supported examples, all

of this should be reported first in a form of a proposal to accept the idea or to change it if

needed and you will be required to send the first step of the project by email on

[email protected]

Deadlines:

 If you are ready you can send your paper on week 11 earlier than the due date, and if not

the deadline of the 12th paper to be submitted on 13/5/2020.


 Kindly send an email on [email protected] for your choice of the company and

team members on week 11, deadline to send the team members and the chosen company

is on 2/5/2020.

 Submission of the 12 th paper will be on moodle , one or two members of a group can

submit on moodle for the whole group.

 For any assistance while working on your paper send an email on

[email protected] and also will have office hours that will be posted on

moodle for week 11 and 12. Keep updated and check your moodle regularly.

You are required to do a research paper project on any of your choices on an

international or national company that offers any product or service or both

to work on (preferably to be a product provider), your project should be

addressing the following:

phase 1

 The main topic of the research paper will be INVENTORY MANAGEMENT*

Chapter 8 and you can depend on chapter 1 as a reference if needed.

 Introduction about the company profile: (origin, overview, products, location and the

facility locations, etc.)

 History in a timeline form (in brief paragraph)

 Customer portfolio (target segment, A,B or C, B2B or B2C or B2B2C, needs and

preferences as the demand pattern …etc.) no need to thread the segmentation

strategies ( not our scope)


 Introduce the market as well as the sector or industry working in ( in brief)

 Their strategy to achieve customer satisfaction * how they achieve it* in one

sentence.

 Utilities (look on chapter 1)

 Added value…. How the companies add value to its products?

Phase 2

 Introduction about inventory

 Types of inventory ( the two categories and classifications primary and other

advanced categories)

 Why do the company hold inventory?

 Objectives of inventory control

 How they manage their inventories?

 Elements of managing inventory effectively and efficiently.

 What are the inventory locations ( better to have a supply chain management

diagram as shown in your slides but to be applied on your chosen company for the

locations of the inventory from the startup point till the ending point)

 Interface between supply chain members and inventory management.

 Inventory costs (holding, ordering and stock outs) and how they manage it.

 Order size and classification.

 Lead time

 Warehousing and inventory management interdependence ( show in examples on

your company)

 Tradeoff costs. ( size and cost)


Phase 3

 Impact of the inventory management performance on the overall efficiency of the supply

chain. ( conclusion) - do you see in this company’s case it’s beneficial to hold inventory

or it will be a drawback? And why?

Important notes:

 Regarding the research paper you are required to support your paper with some visuals

or attach a video if found or possible for how there is an interface between inventory

management and warehousing management.

 There will be AUDIO POWERPOINT to have further explanation if needed for the steps

of the 12 th project.

 There will be office hours weekly till you submit the paper to cover all of your questions

and it will be on moodle chat room.

 REFERENCES -- THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS PROJECT.

 The Project will have 20% of the course's overall grade- 20 MARKS.

 You need to read the book and slides while working on your project.

 Remember that we start working on our project from broad view till we reach a

narrow scope. ( each paragraph should lead to the coming one)


Grading will be upon:

1. PowerPoint and visuals as videos on inventory and warehousing management or supply

chain diagram to be attached as well. ( some most important key point of the paper)

2. Outline for all contents of the research paper is a must.

3. References

4. A paragraph not exceeding 5 sentences each and NO PLAGIRISM, if any

plagiarism is found all the paper will be excluded and no second chances.

5. Word file. ( full paper)
