1. Project Description and Objectives:
The aim of this assignment is to perform the CFD analysis for the airfoil in which we are interested in
pressure distribution and the velocity filed for the SD 2030 airfoil and we will carry out the analysis in
the solid works. Then we will have to vary the angle of attack and see the lift coefficient at various
angle of attack.
Simulate the flow around a Selig/Donovan SD 2030 airfoil section at a Reynolds number Re =
200,0. (download the file SD2030.sldcrv from Blackboard to create the SolidWorks part).
Provide the cut plots of the Pressure Distribution and Velocity Field around the SD 2030
airfoil, at zero angle of attack. (15 points)

(a) Plot the Lift Coefficient as a function of Angle of Attack and compare the simulated
results with the experimental results. The experimental results are given in the table
below. Complete the table with the simulated results. (85 points)

Angle of attack of Airfoil
Above is the figure which shows the lift coefficient for the airfoil at various angle of attacks. The blue line
shows the theoretical curve whereas the green line shows the curve we get from simulating the airfoil.
By comparing both the curves we can see that there is not much error in the values of lift coefficient so
we can conclude that the values obtain from simulation in the solid works are close to the original values
and are a good estimate of the lift coefficient.
