Lab Report: Bangladesh University of Business & Technology (BUBT)

This lab report describes an experiment to simulate a buck converter using PSIM software. The student designed a buck converter circuit in PSIM with a MOSFET, diode, inductor and load resistor. They applied a gate pulse, ran the simulation for 10 seconds and observed the output voltage waveform. The student concluded they learned how to design and simulate a buck converter in PSIM from completing this experiment.

Name of the Experiment: Design of Buck (Step-Down) Converter using PSIM

Theory:
Buck Chopper circuit can be called Step-Down Chopper and it means
way that output voltage is to be less than input voltage.
First, if chopper CH is on, current im1 (+ power supply current is) flows through
the E,-CH-L-load-Es path output voltage Eab = Es since voltage is applied from
supply to load. Next, if chopper CH is off, current im2, flows through L - load -
D-L path by accumulative energy in L
Circuit Diagram:

Required equipment and devices:
1. Required Software PSIM
2. DC Power supply
3. MOSFET
4. Diode
5. Inductor
6. Load Resistor
Experimental simulation:

Precautions:
1. Open PSIM and construct the circuit.
2. Select values and apply the gate pulse.
3. Create simulation profile and run simulation for 10 seconds
4. Observe the output voltage
5. Repeat the simulation for different duty cycles

Conclusion:
We learn from this experiment about how to design and simulate Buck
(Step-Down) Converter using PSIM software.
