It provides necessary information to improve standards of living through new inventions, helps ensure safer lives through medical advances, and allows us to understand history and arts more fully. Research is also a formal process of solving problems through inquiry that establishes foundations of knowledge and drives advances in various fields and aspects of life. It helps uncover truths by considering different opinions and data. Overall, research has significantly improved quality of life and will continue doing so.

The learner explains the importance of research in daily life.

Activity
Make a list of at least ten (10) things that you can see at home which you
believe are the results of successful experiment or research in the past. Write your
answers on your paper.

The Role of Research


1. It is an inquiry process.
2. It is a formal process of solving problem.
3. It is a set of procedures and stages.
4. It originates with a question or a problem.
5. Often it is an iterative process.

Research provides a solid foundation for:


- discovery and creation of knowledge, theory-building
- advancement in a field or discipline
- improvements in various aspects of life
- testing, confirmation, revision, and refutation of knowledge as a theory

Significance of Research
1. To gather necessary information - Research provides you with the necessary
information related to your field of study or work. For example, companies may
do research before manufacturing a product.
2. To improve standard of living - Only through research can new inventions and
discoveries come into life. How would life be without Graham Bell and his telephone?
Or what would have happened if Martin Cooper did not give us the concept of mobile
phones?
3. To have a safer life – Research has done great discoveries and development in
the field of health, technology, nutrition, and medicine. These things have improved
life expectancy and helped in curing a lot of diseases.
4. To know the truth – Research investigates and exposes what wrong beliefs people
hold. Listening to different opinions and studying facts and available data will lead
you to unravel truth.
5. To explore our history – Research about our history enables us to learn
and understand the past and prepare for a better future.
6. To understand arts – Research helps us in understanding the works of artists in
different fields of arts. Arts contribute to the refinement of our sensibilities and
cultivate values needed for our daily existence.

Abstraction
Read a sample research related to your course to answer the following

3. What is the conclusion of the study?
4. What is the recommendation of the study?
