APG43L 3.2 Network Impact Report

3/10948-APZ 212 33/62 Uen E | 2017-02-03

Introduction

1 Introduction

The Network Impact Report describes how the current release of APG43L 3.2
with new and changed features affects the previous release of APG43L and the
operator's overall network, including all affected products and functions.

1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this document is to provide sufficient information at an early stage
to Ericsson system operators in order to help them to plan the introduction in their
networks of new APG43L 3.2 Software (SW) package.

1.2 General information

This Network Impact Report describes the software changes introduced in
APG43L 3.2 release with respect to APG43L 3.0. As no network level impacts
have been released in APG43L 3.1, no Network Impact Report document has
been created for that release.

For information about the software changes introduced in APG43L 3.0, refer to
APG43L 3.0 Network Impact Report, Reference [1].

APG43L 3.2 supports one or two APGs in Single-CP and Multi-CP System.

APG43L SW is supported by Operation Support System (OSS-RC) 15B and

subsequent releases.

APG43L 3.2 supports interworking with LI-IMS 14B and subsequent releases.

Refer to specific application (BSC/HLR/MSC/Wireline) Network Impact Report

documents to check actual compatibility between APG43L 3.2 and supported
OSS-RC versions.

APG43L 3.2 is deployed through:

— New installation of BSC/HLR/MSC nodes;

— Software Upgrade of BSC/HLR/MSC/Wireline nodes based on APG43L 2.2,

3.0 or 3.1;

For supporting customers deploying APG43L 3.2 in the network, User Instructions
Network Introduction of APG43L 3.2, Reference [5] should be used.

With reference to HW configurations, in the following sections APG43 will be used

as common term for APG43 based on APUB (AP processor board based on single
core processor), APG43/2 will be used for APG43 based on APUB2 (AP processor

2.2 Hardware
For APG43/3 a new family of GEP5 boards is supported, based on 64 GB RAM.

2.3 File System

No differences compared to APG43L 3.0.

2.4 Implementation
The preparation of customer network is a critical part, especially the first time an
APG43L is introduced in the network. In particular, the setup of OSS-RC with
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server and public key infrastructure
is required for the centralized user management.

8 3/10948-APZ 212 33/62 Uen E | 2017-02-03

General Impact

The preparation of customer network is a critical part, especially the first time an
APG43L is introduced in the network. In particular Local Authentication (LA)
provides a management interface to manage a standalone authentication service
for Operation and Maintenance (OaM) access in the Managed Element (ME) that
does not rely on a data store external to the ME.

Refer to User Instructions Network Introduction of APG43L 3.2, Reference [5], for
how to introduce for the first time APG43L 3.2 in the network, for the use cases of
the APG node installed from scratch and as HW swap.

When not using OSS-RC, the recommended connection tool for direct connections
to APG is WinFIOL.

2.6 Operation
APG43L 3.2 introduces, compared with APG43L 3.0, some changes in terms of:

— New, changed or dismissed functions;

— Deprecated AP commands;

— Model item changes;

— New and modified Operational CPI documents (Printout Descriptions,

Operational Instructions, User Guides).

The details about above changes are described in Section 4 on page 15.

Note: For a description of changes in STS Object Types and/or Counters, refer to
specific AXE Application documentation.

2.7 Functional Changes

APG43L 3.2 introduces some functional changes compared with APG43L 3.0. The
changes details are explained in the following sections.

APG43L 3.2 Network Impact Report

2.7.1 User Management

2.7.1.1 Local Users

Local user management requires an administrator account on the each of

connected APG(s) . It is identified as laadmin user and it’s a system created
instance of AdministratorAccount Managed Object Class (MOC) that is
instantiated at installation time and locked. It is requested the unlock operation to
enable it. Unlocking of Administrator account is allowed only to TS administrator
user issuing pwdresetlaadmin command.

The procedure for creation of local user is changed with respect to APG43L 3.0
and a specific procedure has created to administration of local users. Refer to User
Guide User Management, Reference [6], for more information.

In APG43L 3.2 it is not allowed to define more than 299 local users.

2.7.1.2 Troubleshooting Users

In APG43L 3.2 it is not allowed to define more than 200 Troubleshooting (TS)
users.

The maximum account age is increased from 14 days to 30 days. So, the attribute
maximumAccountAge can be set in the range 1..30.

The printout which is produced to a TS user at first time login is changed with
respect to APG43L 3.0.

2.7.2 Direct Data Transfer

APG43L 3.2 introduces a new function called Direct Data Transfer Management
allowing to configure transfer of data without using any permanent or external
storage for such data in transit. Supported external protocols for direct data
transfer are RPC, SFTP, FTP.

In order to use this function a minimum SW level of MSC 17A or HLR 17A is
needed.

Refer to User Guide Direct Data Transfer Management, Reference [3], for specific
information about how to employ the function.

2.7.3 LDAP Server

In case a new LDAP server is configured on APG via installation of new certificates,
it is recommended to migrate existing users keeping the same identities (UID)
used in old LDAP server. If this is not followed, an authentication attempt will
fail for 60 seconds.

2.7.4 CP Configuration Management via Model Interaction

APG43L 3.2 provides support for configuration management of CP through model
interaction in an AP session, in addition to configuration through MML commands
in an MML session. This is useful in case a Management System (MS) does not
support MML session handling.

As prerequisite, a configuration mediation module should be installed on APG43L

3.2, and onwards, within the CP SW upgrade of the related AXE application,
BSC, MSC, HLR. Two new MML commands have been introduced to install the
configuration mediation module, FCCML, and to print related information, FCCMP.

2.7.5 Support for Static Route

APG43L 3.2 allows to configure a static route between the OaM untagged APG
network and an external destination reachable via a supplementary gateway
server.

In particular, the existing netdef AP command is extended so as to offer a static

route not only for an already defined tagged (via VLAN) network, but also for an
untagged network. The netls AP command is modified as well, in order to list
also all defined static routes not belonging to tagged networks.

2.7.6 Software-Based MAU

The primary objective of the Maintenance Unit (MAU) is to control the CP
states, take the faulty CP unit out of service and preserve fault information for
post-mortem analysis.

APG43L 3.2 supports the software-based Maintenance Unit (MAU) functionality,

thus removing the need for the physical MAU Board (MAUB).

SW-based MAU is implemented as a purely software function, running on APG.

SW-based MAU is applicable from APZ 212 60F onwards.

2.7.7 Recovery Procedure

For recovery use cases of APG43L 3.2 where an LCT is needed, the LCT SW
needs to be updated.

Ericsson Support can be contacted for further information.

2.7.8 Support for IP-STP

A new value for the enumeration AxeApplication has been added for representing
an IP-STP AXE node. The read-only attribute axeApplication will acquire the new
enumeration value IPSTP only for newly installed IP-STP nodes (in case of SW
upgrade the attribute will keep the existing value MSC).

3 Upgrade

SW upgrade from APG43L 2.2, 3.0 and 3.1 to APG43L 3.2 is supported.

14 3/10948-APZ 212 33/62 Uen E | 2017-02-03

Additional Information

The old APG releases provided the support for local authentication and during SW
upgrade the local users which were available will be migrated using the new local
authentication mechanism. If the baseline contains a local user with upper case
characters then the SW Upgrade will fail.

Note: Before beginning the upgrade procedure towards APG43L 3.2, it is

necessary to install on APG an AXE Application (either BSC or MSC or HLR) SW
package which must be specific for APG43L 3.2. In case this step is not carried
out, the upgrade procedure will fail and an APG Restore will be needed.
Refer to specific AXE Application SW upgrade procedures for more details.
