SANS's Internal Document

1 HVAC Specification
1.1 General
This standard aims to clarify all the requirements / needs to satisfy the environment of
ANS system.

2 Conflict and deviation

• Any conflicts between this Standard and other applicable SANS Engineering
Standards, SANS Materials System Specifications, SANS Standard Drawings, or
industry standards, codes, and forms shall be referred to SANS for arbitration.
2.1 Codes and Standards
Design of the shelter shall conform to the following standards:

1. SANS Power Configuration Power Manual.

2. ASHRAE American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning
Engineers.

2.2 Electrical Power Configuration

Refer to SANS Power Configuration Manual.

2.3 HVAC System

2.3.1.1 For new design associated to shelters BTU calculations should cover the following;
sensible heat gain, solar gain, trans gain through partitions, infiltration and by-
passed air and CFM calculations at summer season.
2.3.1.2 Cooling and heating load estimates must only be carried out by experienced
personnel, or under the supervision of experienced personnel, and include
appropriate allowances for internal loads, infiltration, fan gains and duct heat
gain/loss.
2.3.1.3 Equipment selection must be based on the design indoor and outdoor
conditions, adjusted if necessary, to account for the installed plant
configuration (e.g. heat gain from surroundings, recirculation). Unit capacity
must be capable of achieving both the calculated sensible and total loads.
The Contractor shall select and furnish dual redundant (Package Unit or Wall Mounted
Package type depending on shelter size) (three Air conditioning systems for remote
sites*) air condition system for the equipment shelters, provided with control panel,
automatic thermal control system. Load calculation sheet shall be submitted along with
the proposed A/C type and capacity.

The active system shall be sized to maintain the conditioned space at 23°C dry bulb and
50% relative humidity at the actual outdoor dry bulb and wet bulb temperature, with
not less than 20 percent spare capacity of the design load. The air conditioning load
shall be (enough for load requirements) and even bigger if required based on the CDR
based on the internal heat loads of the electronic equipment in the normal mode of
operation as well as any mechanical heat loads that might be within the conditioned
space. Use shelter orientation which yields largest solar heat design conditions.
Included in the air conditioning load shall be all lighting fixtures illuminated, three
occupants and transmission gains through roof, wall and floor areas including solar
load and equipment heat dissipations. External units shall work in 65°C ambient
temperature and installed equipped with dust filters for external units. The foundations
shall be prepared as part of Civil works.

HVAC outdoor units (Package Unit type) must be equipped with spring mount
vibration isolators.

2.3.1.4 A/C Automatic Thermal and Timer Control System: The Scope of Work includes
supply, installation, and testing of an Automatic Control System for A/Cs. The
Control System shall monitor the Equipment Shelter Temperature and maintain
it to 22ºC. Emergency push button shall be equipped in the AC panel. If the room
temperature becomes higher than 25ºC, the control system shall run both the
A/Cs till the temperature drops to below 22ºC. Thereafter, the Supporting A/C
will revert to standby duty. The Control System shall keep the main and standby
A/Cs in operation periodically through a Programmable Timer Module which
will periodically Changeover (8 hours) the Main and Standby A/Cs. The Control
Panel shall ensure that at least one A/C Unit is Redundant for Standby Operation.
Failure of operational duty A/C due to electrical, mechanical or low Gas fault
shall be detected by this Control Panel and Standby A/C shall be put in operation
automatically without operator assistance.
AC control panel shall be linked to the fire panel and all AC’s shall be shut
down in event of fire.
All these operations shall also be possible by manual Control. The grounding
system to be applied. Following Indicators shall be provided on Front Panel:
• Power available (Green)
• ACU No. 1 in Operation (Green)
• ACU No. 2 in Operation (Green)
• ACU No. 1Fault (RED)
• ACU No. 2Fault (RED)
• Shelter Temperature Indicator (Digital)
• Temperature is higher than 25ºC (RED)
(in case of remote site)
• ACU No. 3 in Operation (Green)
• ACU No. 3 Fault (RED)

supplier list.

3 Purpose
HVAC system shall satisfy the requirements that needed for safe operation of the
system. The active system shall be sized to maintain the conditioned space at 75°F dry
bulb and 50% relative humidity at the actual outdoor dry bulb and wet bulb
temperature, with not less than 20 percent spare capacity of the design load. The air
conditioning load shall be (enough for load requirements) and even bigger if required
based on the CDR based on the internal heat loads of the electronic equipment in the
normal mode of operation as well as any mechanical heat loads that might be within the
conditioned space. Use shelter orientation which yields largest solar heat design
conditions.
