Activity # 10 Chapter 10 Different Types of Hypothesis Testing

Compute the following word problems. State your answer in step by step process. (15 points each
number)
1. A researcher claims that 30 year old women on a special diet will have an average weight of 110
pounds. A sample of 15 women has an average weight of 112.5 pounds and a standard deviation of 5
pounds. At a α =0.01 can the claim be rejected?
Solution:
Step 1: State the hypothesis.
H 0 :_____________________________________________________________
H 1 : _____________________________________________________________
Step 2: The level of significance and critical region.
α =¿ ________, df = ______and the t critical = __________
Step 3: Compute for the value of one sample t test. t computed =¿_______
Step 4: Decision Rule.

_______________.
Step 5: Conclusion:

____________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________.

2. Average Senior High School annual cost of tuition fee for all private schools last year was Php43,700.
A random sample of costs this year for 45 private schools indicated that the sample mean was
Php45,800 and a sample standard deviation was Php5,600. At 0.01 level of significance, is there
sufficient evidence to conclude that the cost increased?
Solution:
Step 1: State the hypothesis.
H 0 :_____________________________________________________________
H 1 : _____________________________________________________________
Step 2: The level of significance and critical region.
α =¿ ________ and the z critical = __________
Step 3: Compute for the value of one sample t test. z computed =¿_______
Step 4: Decision Rule.

3. A certified public accountant claims that more than 30% of all accountants advertise. A sample of 400
accountants in Rizal province showd that 112 had used some form of advertising. At a α =0.01, is there
enough evidence to support the claim? (Use p-value method).
Solution:
Step 1: State the hypothesis.
H 0 :_____________________________________________________________
