Honors Bio A Syllabus 2020
Honors Bio A Syllabus 2020
Course description: Honors Biology A provides an in depth study of the life sciences and is divided into
four major units. Unit one focuses on Ecology. Ecology involves the critical interactions between
organisms and their surroundings – including both biotic and abiotic factors. During unit two we will
study and appreciate The Amazing Cell. In this unit the understanding of the many structures and
functions of unique cell types is developed. Topics in biochemistry, homeostasis, and cell transport are all
applied to living systems. Unit three includes the biological processes Photosynthesis and Cellular
Respiration. In our study, we will better understand the critical role of carbon as we trace it throughout the
biosphere. The final unit focuses on the central dogma of biology – DNA, RNA, and Protein Synthesis. A
study of these biological molecules is further developed as the processes of replication, transcription,
translation, and gene regulation are covered. Chromosomes, mutations and topics in biotechnology are
included during this final unit of the semester.
Expectations: Respect all others (students, visitors, faculty and staff).

Please ask questions and take part in discussion. The atmosphere of this class is largely dependent on
you. I am here to help you succeed. Put forth your best effort!
Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is extremely important and requires that students make sure all work they do for their
classes is their own. Cheating is a serious offense and serves only to undermine a student’s education and
moral character. Cheating will not be tolerated at Totino-Grace High School. Depending on the severity,
cheating may result in the loss of credit for an assignment or test, or even loss of credit for a course.
Cheating takes many forms including but not limited to the following:
-plagiarism (see definition below)
-copying another student’s homework or class work or offering your work
to someone else for the purpose of cheating
-giving or receiving answers to a quiz or test (in class or outside of class)
-turning in someone else’s previously used paper or project
The following protocol will be followed after any cheating incident.
1. Parents notified, student will have meeting with a school administrator
2. Student will sign an academic integrity statement to be kept on file in office
3. Loss of credit for the assignment, test, or even credit for the course
To be honest and to put forth your best effort is all that anyone can ask of you.
Be responsible for your own work and when in doubt, please ask questions.
I have read the Honors Biology course outline and lab safety document. I agree to take on the
responsibilities of the course and to always act appropriately in the biology lab.
I have read the section regarding academic integrity. I understand the consequences of failing to work
according to the academic integrity code.
