Steps in Designing a Presentation

Here are the recommended steps in designing a presentation:

1.Identify the purpose and target audience

 The most important rule for designing effective presentation is “KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE”

2.Make an outline

 Make an outline of the topics, subtopics and sequence of topics for the presentation

3.Determine the Length of the Presentation

• Determine how long you want the presentation to be.

• General rule is 1-2 slide per minute of oral presentation

• More 4-5 slide if you are presenting photo albums

4.Make your title slide and outline slide

 Make your title slide and outline slide TEXT ONLY

 TITLE SLIDE Is one of the most important slides in the presentation
 Title should be a good discription of the entire presentation and what it is all about.

5. Make the Slides

 Make the slides of each of the topics based on the outline- text only
 Should not contain long text or paragraphs.
 Ideally all text in the slide must be in bullet form
 A general rule, there should not be more than seven subtopics
 Use only two fonts sans serif(such as Arial) for the titles and serif (such as Times New
Roman) for the subtitles and blocks of text

6. Add the Slide Enhancements

 Choose a slides for scheme and add the images, graphics, colors, or other enhancements.
 Choose background and text color that have very strong color contrast
 If you use pictures, illustrations or video clips make sure these elements will not simply be
decorations on the page but will enhance the message you want to convey in the entire
presentation

7. Add transitions

 Your last form of enhancement is the way slides and their elements will appear on screen during
the actual presentation

8.Test your Presentation

 With all the slides in place and transition ready, rehearse using the slides and check how much
time will actually take them to be presented. If you were given 10 minutes to present, make slide
good for only 8 minutes\

9.Save and pack your Presentations
