La Verdad Christian College - Apalit: Is Globalization Good For Us?
Globalization has become that word where almost majority has already heard yet are not aware
of its true meaning and the impact it holds throughout multiple countries. Globalization is clearly
defined as the mobility across borders of goods and services, people, capital and knowledge (BIS,
2017). Even before people knew about the term globalization, it has been happening for the past
century through the process of trading wherein multiple parts of Asia, and Europe used the Silk
Road to travel and trade with different countries, even the Philippines was included in this trading
process, because there were lesser trading restrictions and limitations bartering items. Now,
trading has evolved with the use of multiple modes of transportation; economic integration now
has a deeper and broader foundation in a time where communication has extremely levelled-up
with the use of technological advancements. Emerging market economies have become tightly
integrated in terms of trade, finance, and has increased their global value, which can possibly
gain the attention of potential foreign investors.
The Philippine’s emerging economy has become increasingly integrated with the global
economy; it is generally evident through the increase of its goods and labour trading. We are
known for our labor exports, with millions of people working abroad that helped increase the
country’s GDP. One of the possible benefits that we attained from globalization is the

improvement of quality education; we are aware that Spaniards play a major role in maneuvering
the cultures and traditions of the Filipinos in which they have also brought an educational system
which has evolved to what it is today. In terms of exporting resources, the Philippines is rich in
multiple resources, which they have successfully exported to multiple parts of the world; these
resources include crops (corn, rice, coconut, etc.), minerals (copper, nickel, iron, etc.), and people
as to which I’ve already expound in the previous sentences. Another benefit of globalization is
that it produces better communication and alliances with other countries; a possible example for
this is the country being part of ASEAN, which is an intergovernmental association comprising of
ten countries located in South East Asia which promotes cooperation and facilitates integration
among its members and other countries. Being a part of this union means that you communicate
with fellow members with regards to political and economic affairs to improve whatever areas
need further improvements. As we all have observed, globalization has its benefits and we can
all say that it is somewhat good in terms of economic development and making your economy
known to the global market.
