Warehouse should be noticed of any receipts before the cargo actually arrives for making
preparations – inbound
Pre-alert and preparation for the cargo reception forms the Receipt of ASN
It comes in an electronic format (EDI). Standard format can be called EDI 856 or EDI X12
system.
Inbound cargo to warehouse arrive in LCL (less container load) or FCL (full container load)
from oversea or within country.
Lead times – time initiation from when you get noticed to when it is received by customer.
Receiving process
- Begin with advance notification of the arrival of goods.
- Allows the warehouse to schedule receipt and unloading to coordinate efficiently
with other activities within the warehouse.
- Refers to the actual receiving of physical cargo in lorries (LC) or containers from the
transporter by the warehouse.
- Receiving (goods-in or in-handling) is a critical process to ensure that one needs to
get everything right at all times.
- If things go awry at this stage of the warehouse process, the issues will be happened
such as the receipt of incorrect items then direct impact on inventory accuracy and
fulfilment of customer’s orders.
