RESEARCH IN EDUCATION

2nd Semester A.Y. 2020-2021

Course Description

This is a three-unit course designed for BEED students. It aims to help pre-service
teachers to become proficient and skilled in the academe. It emphasizes the importance of
conducting evidence-based research or also known as “action research”. This course will focus
on concepts associated with the process and procedures of conducting action research.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this class, the pre-service teachers are expected to:

 Define characteristics of action research (AR);


 Compare and contrast AR with other types of research;
 Relate AR to current teaching practices;
 Describe the phases of the AR cycle;
 Identify an AR topic;
 Explain what constitutes an excellent AR question;
 Define various data collection methods;
 Develop a data collection plan for an AR project;
 Conduct data collection in a classroom setting;
 Interpret AR data;
 Present conclusions and recommendations of the conducted AR; and
 Accomplish a complete action research.

Class Policies

1. Late work: Late papers/output will be accepted but with deduction (negotiable
especially during this pandemic).
2. Plagiarism: Any required written output proven to be copied from the Internet will receive a
major point deduction. As educators, we do not tolerate cheating and stealing of someone
else’s intellectual property. Learn how to cite sources to avoid committing plagiarism.
3. Consultation hours: My consultation hours, aside from the class schedule, is Monday-Friday
8:00 am – 5:00 pm. I will not accommodate any queries beyond that time.
