FIRST QUARTER/WEEK 5
Reference: DO 31, s. 2020

LEARNING AREA GRADE LEVEL

Science Grade 4
ACTIVITY TILE
Do Materials Change?
CONTENT STANDARD PERFORMANCE STANDARD
Changes that materials undergo when exposed to Evaluate whether changes in materials are useful or
certain conditions harmful to one’s environment
COMPETENCY CODE LEARNING COMPETENCY/IES
S4MT-Ig-h-6 Describe changes in the properties of materials when
exposed to certain conditions such as temperature or
when mixed with other materials
I. OVERVIEW OF LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Learners have learned that there are changes that take place in the properties of materials when hammered,
bent, cut, pressed or when exposed to certain conditions.
II. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Knowledge:
1. Describe what happens to the solid materials on certain conditions
2. Explain the importance of practicing safety measures in handling hot objects and
flammable materials
Skill:
Identify changes that may happen to solid materials on certain conditions
III. ASSESSMENT METHODS (Put an x mark on the blank where appropriate)
(It specifies the method you will use to gather evidence of learning.)
________ Observation _________ Analyses of learner’s product
____X____ Tests _________ Talking to learners
IV. ASSESSMENT ACTIVITY
1. Learners are ask to read the discussion about the changes in the properties of materials
when exposed to certain condition in their modules under What’s New and What is It.
2. Learners will describe the changes that happen to the given solid materials when cooled
or heated under What’s More, Activity 2.
3. After answering the activity, they will be tasked to explain the changes in the properties
of the materials when exposed to different temperatures by answering the given
questions under Activity 3 in What’s More.
4. For the last Activity, learners will identify the changes that materials undergo by filling in
the blanks the correct word to complete the sentences in Activity 1 under What’s More.
V. RECORDING METHODS (Put an x mark on the blank where appropriate)
(It indicates how you will record and store the information gathered about each learner’s progress)
__________ checklist _____X____Marks
__________ Class grids _________ Anecdotal Records
______X____ Grades _________ Comment’s on learner’s work
__________ Portfolio _________ Self-assessment records
__________ audio recordings, photographs,
video footages
VI. MAKING CONSISTENT JUDGMENTS (Put an X mark on the blank where appropriate.)
(It indicates the tools you will use to guide your judgments in assessing the quality of work of each learner)
_________ Rubric linked to the assessment criteria
____X_____ Marks scheme linked to the assessment
_________ Criteria
VII. FEEDBACK (Put an X mark on the blank where appropriate)
(It indicates how you or others will give feedback to the learner)
_________ Oral Feedback from peers/teachers/others
____x____ Written feedback from peers/teachers/others
________ Self-reflection

complete the sentences. Choose your answers from the box.
  solid size liquid solid
form shape decreased
increased liquid temperature texture

1-4. A crayon may change its ____________, ____________, ___________, and _____________
when heated.
5-6. A chocolate changes its form from _____________ to _____________ when heated.
7-8. When cooled, butter or margarine changes its form from ______________ to _____________.
9-10.Temperature of a heated material like candle is _____________, but when cooled its temperature
is _____________.
ACTIVITY 2: Describe the changes that happen to the following solid materials when heated and
when cooled.
Direction: What do you think will happen if crayon, butter/ margarine, lard, ice cube and chocolate
when heated and when cooled will it remain the same, melt or hardened?
Answer the following questions. Write your answers on the blank provided.
1. I think that the heated crayon will __________ when cooled.
2. I think that the chocolate will __________ when heated.
3. I think that the lard will __________ when heated.
4. I think that heated margarine/ butter and chocolate will __________ when cooled.
5. I think that the ice cube will __________ when heated.

Activity 3: Explain the changes in the properties of the materials when exposed to different
temperatures by answering the following questions briefly.
