TIME & DATE 1:00PM/MARCH 17, 2021 QUARTER/WEEK/DAY Q1W1D3

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content standard The Learners demonstrate understanding of how respiratory systems of the
human body work.
B. Performance Standard The learners should be able to make a chart showing healthful habits that
promote proper functioning of the respiratory system.
C. Learning Competencies/ Explain how the respiratory system work together:
Objectives (S5Rs-Ia-1)
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to.
1. Identify the respiratory system and its major parts
2. Describe the function of each respiratory organ; and
3. Trace the path of air inside the body.
II. CONTENT
A. Subject Matter/Lesson Respiratory System
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References Science 5 for student manual and teachers manual
B. Other Learning Resources Internet
C. Process Skills Describing, Defining
D. Values Integration Show some healthy habits by teamwork or group activity through role playing
E. Subject Integration Health
IV. PROCEDURE
A. Engagement
Reviewing previous lesson or
Presenting the new lesson.

Anyone can recall what we Student 1

have tackled yesterday. It is all about keeping reproductive organs healthy ma’am

Very good!
(give her a round of
applause)
B. Explore Do these!
1. Place your hand on your chest. Observe your breathing.
2. Take a deep breath. Observe the movement of your chest.
3. Count Your breathing rate for (5 Seconds using your stopwatch. To count one
breath considers one upward and downward movement of your chest.
4. To determine your breathing rate for 1 minute, multiply your breathing rate
for 15 seconds by 4
5. Place your index finger under your lines hose as you breathe in (inhale) and
breathe out (exhale) Observe
Press your nose and inhale. Release your hand immediately.

Activity
Answer the following.
1. How does your chest move as you breathe?
2. Compare the behavior of your chest during normal and deep breathing.
3. Is there something given off when you exhale? What is it?
4. What Happens when you close the passage of air by pressing your nose?
Does your chest move? Why?
5. What is one breathing cycle? What is breathing rate?

C. Explanation We need air to live. The gas in air which we need to breathe is called oxygen.
We could not live without oxygen. In contrast, carbon dioxide is a gaseous
waste produced in our body. It is carried by blood to the lungs. There, it is
expelled from our body. The exchange of gases in the cells is made possible
through the process of respiration. Human beings breathe in air to let oxygen in
and breathe out to let carbon dioxide out of the body. It includes these organs;
nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi; and lungs
E. Elaboration Examine the parts of the respiratory system shown in the diagram.
Label the diagram to show
Pharynx, nasal cavity, lungs,
Epiglottis, trachea, diaphragm,
Bronchial tubes and bronchioles.
F. Evaluation Multiple choice. Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1. Which of the following “filters” the dirt from the air we breathe?
a. hair from nostrils c. trachea
b. mucus lining the bronchial tube d. lung
2. Where does the exchange of gaseous oxygen and carbon dioxide take place?
a. bronchial tubes c. epiglottes
b. alveoli d. tonsils
3. What do you call the two tubes found at the lower end of the trachea?
a. bronchial tubes c. pharynx
b. larynx d. alreoli
4. Why is the lining of the nose hairy and always moist?
a. to filter dirt and gems entering the body
b. to allow oxygen to pass through
c. to prevent a person from choking
d. to give shape to the nose.
5. How does air enter the body?
a. from the nose to the bronchus, trachea and lungs
b. from the nose to the trachea, bronchus and lungs
c. from the nose to the lungs, bronchus, and trachea
d. from the nose to the trachea, lungs and bronchus

Additional activities for Let the pupils identify the respiratory organ indicated in the poster of the
remediation respiratory system you will show. Discuss each function.
G. Expand I value these
1. My respiratory system is composed of _________________
2. I have to care for my respiratory system because______________
