Lab Report Format
1. Objectives:
Purpose of doing this experiment; where the rational of the experiment should be explained.
A short paragraph consisting three of four lines is enough.
List all the tools and equipment used to perform the experiment. Also, briefly describe its
use for each. Just one or two lines are enough.
3. Theory:
It should be as per the scope of the lab exercise. Do not write anything irrelevant or story
under this heading. Let it be precise, i.e., the conceptual part of it to be explained.
4. Answer to questions:
The questions specifically asked in the section ‘results or discussion or questions’. It can the
table of observation or calculations, sample calculation, data analysis, graphs, drawings,
sketches, pictures, interpretation of results, inferences, and safety precautions etc.
So first understand the question and then answer it to that precisely. If you feel the subheadings
can be given then please do it so.
If any concepts referred (remember do not copy from anywhere, neither from other groups nor
in internet nor in books. Only you can refer and write on your own words) then you must
indicate the reference number in the script. Also there is separate sub-section at the end called
“Reference” where you have to state the source of reference in detail. The no. you indicate in
the script or text and in the Reference section should match. If it found copied as it is and
without proper reference then your report directly deserves to zero mark.
Note again the report should be precise, in other words short and sweet.
5. Conclusions:
This should add a real meaning or value to the report and not just be writing the objectives in
past-tense. Something of what was learned while performing experiment.
6. References:
- Author names, title the article or concept, title of book or journal or conference, publishers,
year, if volume and issue no. then indicate that as well and finally the page nos.
- if it referred in the internet, then it should be. Author name, title, url:website, date and time
it is referred.
Note:
- The lab assessment rubrics are also attached for your reference in the moodle.
- The submission of lab reports should be on or before the due date, late submissions are not
entertained. Submit the softcopy of the lab report directly in the Moodle portal made
available for you. NO hardcopy submission is entertained. The due date is Week 8 Friday

- The report should be typed in the same format as given above, don’t change the format.
- Any other relevant information will be given on time-to-time in class and/or in moodle. In
other words you can feel free to approach me for any clarification at any time.
- The explanations under each subheading given above are just for your understanding. Don’t

exercise accordingly you can do it.
