Course Objective: At the end of this course, the students will be able to:

 Develop an overview of the field of image processing.


 Understand the fundamental algorithms and how to implement them.
 Prepare to read the current image processing research literature.
 Gain experience in applying image processing algorithms to real problems

Course Description: This course is an introduction to Digital Image Processing covering digital
techniques for image representation, enhancement, compression and restoration. Students will learn the
fundamentals behind image processing methods and algorithms. This course presents the theory and
practice of digital image processing with Mathematical and focuses on the Digital Image Processing
package. The lectures are followed by exercise sessions to help attendees understand the material and to
provide a focused and practical learning experience.

Grading Policy: There will be an evaluation in shape of assignments, quizzes, project, Mid
Term examination and Final term Examination held once during the whole semester.
Marks Distribution: Total Subject Marks: 60

Theory Marks: 60
Quizzes : 06 marks
Assignments : 06 marks
Mid Term : 18 marks
Final Term (Theory) : 30 marks

Assignment and quizzes: Approximately 4 assignments and 4 quizzes shall be given during the
semester. The quizzes shall preferably be unannounced. The duration of each quiz shall be about
10-15 minutes. No make-ups will be offered for missed quizzes. The graded quizzes shall be
returned in the next lecture and the graded assignments shall be returned within a week. The
assignments shall clearly reflect the indigenous work of the student. Plagiarism is not allowed
which may result in cancellation of an assignment, in addition to reporting the matter to the
management for appropriate action.

Mid-Term Examination: A midterm exam of minimum 1:15 hour duration will be held that
will cover all material covered till the midterm.

Attendance Policy: 75% attendance is mandatory; deficient students will not be allowed to
appear in the final examination.
