Module 8
Module 8
1. Make an inventory list (at least 5) of gadgets, devices, appliances, and any equipment that can be
found in your house/apartment where you presently live. Classify them according to their usefulness to
you. Place in one column a list of what you think are useful to you while in another column a list of those
which you think are useless, but it is still there in your house/apartment anyway. The table on the next
page can be your guide.
2. In your inventory, rank the items in the ‘Useful Technologies’ column according to their usefulness
(rank 1st the most useful). In the same way for the ‘Useless Technologies’ column, rank the items
according to their uselessness (rank 1st the most useless).
3. Observe the ranking you gave. Is the rank 1st in your useful technologies a complete opposite of the
rank 1st in your useless technologies? Give your criteria on how you chose your 1st among the useful
and 1st among the useless technologies. Have you considered safety, emotional attachment, and
morality in your ranking, or did you have other criteria? Explain.
The first one on the most useful technology I choose is the phone. The first one on the most
useless technology I chose is the DVD player.
I only had one criterion on my list. It is decided on how often we use these things. The
telephone, we use every day. I have my aunt who works overseas and we get to be connected to her
everyday even though we are miles away using our phones.
The most useless is our DVD Player. It is still here because my parents never got to throw it away
because it holds a sentimental value to them. However, because we are using smart tv, I can already
connect our TV to Netflix and YouTube. We don’t have to use DVDs or CDs just to watch a movie. That’s
why we never really use it now.
