There are only three electrical properties.

The three properties are resistance, capacitance and

inductance. However, there are hundreds of variations to the electrical components with these
properties. Resistors of many shapes and sizes are in use in electrical and electronic circuits.
Likewise, capacitors and inductors of many sizes and forms are in use. This activity will
introduce you to the more common variations of common components used in electronics.

A large number of devices are used to control electrical circuits. Switches, fuses and
semiconductors devices of many types are used to control and protect circuits. This activity will
introduce you to the symbols and appearance of some common circuit devices.

This activity is not about “understanding” circuit properties or devices. We are simply developing
the abilities listed below.

(1) Recognize symbols

(2) Recognize common components
(3) Describe unit of measure for resistors, capacitors and inductors

You should read and study the information presented. You can get additional information from
other sources such as textbooks as required. Click on the “Begin” button at the lower right of the
page when you feel familiar with the ideas presented. The activity will then present you with 25
questions about electricity. Review the presented information as required for making a good
score on the question set.

The questions will be presented in a different order each time you repeat the activity. In addition,
the options will be shuffled on each use of this activity.
