1. A centrifugal pump delivers 26 l/s against a total head of 16 m at 1450 rpm.

The
impeller diameter is 0.5 m. A geometrically similar pump of 30 cm diameter is running
at 2900 rpm. Calculate head and discharge required assuming equal efficiencies
between the two pumps.

2. A centrifugal pump of 35 cm diameter running at 1000 rpm develops a head of 18 m.

The vanes are curved back at an angle of 300 to the tangent at outlet. If velocity flow is
constant at 2.4 m/s, find the manometric efficiency of the pump.

3. A centrifugal pump delivers 30 litres of water per second to a height of 18 meter,

through a pipe of 90 m long and 100 mm diameter. If the overall efficiency of the
pump is 75% find, the power required to drive the pump. Take f =,0.012.

4. A four stage centrifugal pump has four identical impeller keyed to the same shaft. The
shaft is running at 400 rpm and the total manometric head developed by the multistage
pump is 40 m.The discharge through the pump is 0.2 m 3/s. The vanes of each
impeller are having an outlet angle of 450. If the width and diameter of each impeller at
outlet is 5 cm and 60 cm respectively, find the manometric efficiency,

5. A centrifugal pump is working against a head of 20 m while rotating at the rate of 600
rpm. If the blades are curved back to an angle of 45° to the tangent at the outlet tip and
velocity of flow remains constant at 2 m/s. Calculate the impeller diameter when all
the kinetic energy at impeller outlet is wasted.

6. A centrifugal pump having a head-capacity relationship given by the equation

ha  180  6.1*10 4 * Q 2
is to be used with a system for Z 2  Z1  30 m what is the
expected flowrate if the total length of constant diameter pipe is 300m and the fluid is

water? Assume the pipe diameter to be 4 cm and the friction factor to be equal to 0.02.
Neglect all minor losses.
