“ Different Folks, Different Strokes”

Considering your thoughts about our previous discussion, please ponder on the quotation above.

PM me your thoughts about the

first 5 responses.

Guiding Principles in the Selection and use of teaching Strategies

1. Learning is an active Process
 We have to actively engage the learners
in learning activities if we want them to Research shows that:
learn what we intend to teach. 78% retention rates in learning by doing
 Hands-on- Minds-on learning 90% retention rates by teaching others

2. The more senses that are involved in learning, the more and better the learning

 Consider that humans are

intensively visual learners.
Moreover, combining two or
more senses promotes better 3. Emotion has the
learning
power to
increase
retention and
learning
 the more
emotionally
involved
our students
become in our lesson, the greater the impact.
 The more intense the arousal, the stronger the imprint.

Dearest future teachers,

You will play the biggest role on having a positive
learning environment. So, set the mood before you fire! 

4. Learning is meaningful when it is connected to students’ everyday y life

- Abstract concepts are made understandable when we give sufficient examples relating to
student’s experiences, this means that if the students are to see the connectedness of the
lessons to their lives then, the make most meaning from
it.
5. Good teaching goes beyond recall of information

 Good thinking concern itself with Higher-Order-

Thinking-Skills (HOTS) to develop creative and
critical thinking .

6. An integrated teaching approach is far more effective than teaching isolated bits of
information

We must consider
Garndner’s Multiple
Intelligence and varied
Learning Styles!

Brain Based Strategies

What are Brain Based Strategies?

Brain- Based Instructional Strategies are

ways of making connections with students
that promote long-term memory and recall

Brain-Based Strategies includes:

1. Involving students in real-life or authentic problem solving
2. Using projects to increase meaning and motivation
3. Simulations and role plays as meaning makers
4. Classroom strategies using visual processing (Using Graphic Organizers)
 Visuals are powerful aids in retention as well as in understanding. To help
students organize their thinking, teachers use graphic organizers)
5. Songs, jingles and raps.
6. Mnemonic Strategies.
7. Writing Strategies
 Make students write their own word problems and make them ask their problem
and make them ask their classmates to solve them.
8. Active Review
9. Hands-on activities
 Concrete experience is one of the best way to make long-lasting neutral
connections.
