Assignment #1

Reflection: Write a reflection on the Impact of ICT in our daily lives.

As we move into 21st century, Information and Communication

Technology (ICT) have become part of our lives which greatly affects our
living standards. Almost every day, there has been new Information and
Communications Technology emerging from simple to complex development
and inventions which offers capabilities to different industries such as health,
banking, e-commerce, education, etc. to facilitate efficiently and effectively
human workforce.

The unstoppable faces of digital age are no longer luxuries in

developing countries like ours because it guarantees benefits to everything
we do anywhere and anytime. But still, given this technological advancement,
we should not be calm and relax because it also blends some problems.

ICT or Information and Communication Technology impact can be

positive and negative. In social networking such as facebook, twitter and
instagram, it allows users to communicate and stay connected with each other
across the globe regularly. This networking site provides faster
communications, effective sharing of information and paperless environment
but these things reduces face to face interaction which deprives real
conversation and we cannot be able to express true feelings.

In employment or job opportunities, through ICT, it increases the

number of employment in our society. People can work as web developer,
online teacher, network administrator or any jobs that can be done online or
from home but to some it is “Job Loss” because manual operations are being
replace by machines.

In Education, E-learning is now available, which the learner only uses

laptops or cellphones to learn a task. They can be able to learn through
watching videos, e-books, blogs and other e-learning collaborative
environment but this new way of teaching is costly because ICT gadgets are
too expensive that poor students cannot avail such electronic gadgets which
make them deprive the benefits of e-learning.

Given the incapability of ICT at some point, I believe that this

development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has
strong potential to transform economies and societies in several ways, such
as reducing information and transaction costs, creating new collaborative
models to increase the efficiency of workers, promoting innovation, and
improving education and access to basic services. Innovation seems to be
everywhere in the lives of consumers, in industry and service production
processes, as well as in public sector tasks.

However, while many shown to be engaging with this technical change

it is also clear that some people are avoiding sort of information or
discussions on certain aspects of ICT’s. Undoubtedly, ICT have really made
people life simple and entertaining but we still have to be careful in using it
because we may suffer from some negative impact of using them.
