SPLIT, The Movie. (part of the PBL topic)

Before Watching:

1. What is the title of the movie and what do you think it means?

A/: The title of the movie is SPLIT and I think this title refers to the different
personalities of Kevin that is to say that the different personalities are a small fragment
of Kevin or a different parts of Kevin.

Watch the movie:

2. Who are the main characters in the protagonist’s mind? Give a short
description of them.
 Dennis
 Patricia
 Hedwig
 Barry
 Kevin Wendell Crumb
 Jade
 Orwell
 The Beast.
3. Who are the other main characters in the story? (other than the main
protagonist)
 Casey Cooke
 Dr. Karen Fletcher
 Claire Benoit
 Marcia
4. What kind of mental disorder(s) is(are) shown in the film? How do you know?
A/: The mental disorders presented in the film were:
 Dissociative identity disorder (DID)
 Posttraumatic stress
In the film they named this disorder many times I know someone who suffers from
this disease and with some of their attitudes it was easy to recognize it
5. What is the main problem in the story and how was it solved?
A/: I think that the main problem in this story is the lack of understanding in which
Kevin lives despite the fact that his psychiatrist understands his illness, I think that
he feels different or excluded, that's why he talks about purity and in the end he lets
Casey live because he gives She says that she also suffered and that is why she
considers her a pure person, because she knows the suffering of others and
perhaps she felt identified with her.
6. If you were Casey, Claire and Marcia what would you do to scape alive?
A/: We think we would try to understand the identities, try to understand the disorder
and the trauma that caused it, we would like to think that we could keep calm and
analyze the situation as better as possible but we are not sure. We would be scared
and nervous, that´s the only thing we know.
7. Does this film depict a fictional situation? Or a real one? Please explain in brief.
A/: I think it represents a real situation since mainly this disease does exist and I
have heard cases on television of people who create even more personalities than
Kevin thanks to the abuse and mistreatment they suffered in the past, it is a very
complex disease since basically you don't have control of yourself, maybe I don't
think the power that the beast had to scale walls and resist shots is very real but the
other situations are very real and I'm sure they can happen in the real world.
8. Would you recommend this film to another person? Who, why?
A/: Yes, we would recommend this movie to all people we know because it is very
important to know more not only about this disease but also how to communicate
with those who suffer from it without hurt them or harming ourselves.
9. In brief, talk about this pictures and what they remind you.

It mainly makes me think of the person that Casey was and how she was seen in
society, she was a marginalized girl, lonely but in the end the most intelligent of all, it
makes me terrible to think of all the abuse and mistreatment that happened, I think it
was a very strong girl, now Hedwig seemed funny and tender to me, he was a very
fragile character, maybe he represented Kevin in childhood and that's why he was such
a weak character and finally The Beast, I think we all have a beast inside of us that
explodes when we can't take it anymore, when we feel pressured, when we feel bad
and we don't know what to do but I clarify that Kevin took it to another level.

10. Write at least 10 words or expressions that were new for you at the time of

 Whimper
 Tiniest
 Overwhelmed
 Depth
 Path
 Blind
 Sight
 Egregious
 Split
 Rejoice
