MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR MAKING INSOLE

1. Travelling head cutting press : This m/c is used for cutting insole & shank
board
2. Stamping m/c : This m/c is used for marking size, brand name, piece etc. on
the insole.
3. Grooving m/c : This m/c is used for reduce the material for shank according
to measurement of shank.
4. Skiving m/c : There are types of skiving machine. a) normal skiving m/c b)
heavy duty skiving m/c c) Matrix skiving m/c- This is used for only shank board
in making continental insole.
5. Riveting m/c : To put the rivet in steel shank for attaching with Shank board.
…continued
6. Cementing (Plain) : This m/c is used for only Insole board.
7. Cementing (flexible) : This m/c is used for only shank board.
8. Moulding m/c : To give the pressure on insole according the last
bottom profile.
9. Beveling m/c : This m/c is used for cutting the back part of the insole
according to the bevel angle of the last
10. Generator : It is used for power-backup, light cuts off.
11. Air Compressor : This is used for giving air pressure to m/c like
Grooving & Flexible roller m/c etc.
INSOLES TYPES AND SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS

1. CONTINENTAL INSOLE
(i) Cutting of shank board,
(ii) Cutting of Insole board,
(iii) Stamping,
(iv) Grooving of shank board,
(v) Matrix Skiving of shank board,
(vi) Riveting/Attaching of steel shank on shank board,
(vii) Cementing (a) Plain roller for Insole board (b) Flexible roller for shank
board,
(viii) Attaching of Insole Board and Shank Board,
(ix) Molding,
(x) Beveling,
(xi) Final Checking and packing.
How to calculate a shank length for a particular last?

1. Measure standard last length

E.g. 265mm
2. Calculate heel length
HL=SLL/4 ±5mm; +5for gents and -5 for ladies
=>72.5mm or 61.25 for gent and lady respectively.
3. Find flexible region/area of the last. This is the area made from
the outside and inside ball joints rectangle.
4. Go 5mm from the flexible region toward the heel and name it “A”
5. Reduce 20mm from the heel length from the toe side and name
it “B”.
6. The distance between “A” and “B” is the shank length for this
particular style.
7. The distance between “B” and “H” (72-20=52) is called seat
position.
QUALITY CHECK POINTS FOR INSOLES
1) Direction of cutting
2) Checking with master pattern during stamping.
3) Shank grooving should be in center and depth should
be according to length, width, thickness of metal
shank and shank board.
4) Matrix skiving should be 25 mm and 0 skiving on the
edge.
5) Shank riveting should be according to work detail
card.
6) Cementing should not exceed the limits.
7) Drying time must be proper.
8) Attaching must be proper.
9) Molding should be according to last bottom profile.
10) Beveling angle must match with last and heel.
