How To Make A Report in Arcgispro
The end goal of creating reports is so that one can present information about features of the dataset that is being
worked with. Reports are most useful for communicating with those who are not familiar with GIS and who would
therefore be best served by a report that more closely resembles a spreadsheet than a GIS. Reports can be customized
by specifying how they should be organized, what data should be included in them, etc. The following is a step-by-step
tutorial on how to create a simple report inside of ArcGIS Pro, but the process would be similar in other GIS platforms.
b. Click on the resulting downloaded file to go to its location in your file directory. Right click on it and unzip
it to the desired location.
c. In ArcGIS Pro, click on “Add Data” in the Map tab. Navigate to the place where the unzipped file is located
and add the shapefile (file extension .shp).
3. Make a Report
a. In the contents pane on the left, right click on the name of the file, “cb_2018_us_county_500k.zip”.
b. In the resulting pop-up menu, click “New Report”
c. In the resulting Create New Report pane, name the report something more appropriate. For this tutorial,
we will look at land areas, so name it “County Land Areas”. Click “Next.
d. Uncheck the “Select All” box to deselect all the options. Click the checkboxes for STATEFP, COUNTYFP,
NAME, AND ALAND. This will allow for the report to show the State FIPS code, county FIPS code, county
name, and each county’s land area. Click “Next”.
e. There is no need to bother with doing groupings, sortings, or summary statistics. Click “Next”.
f. In the final window, simply click “Finish” to output the report, or change some of the settings to customize
the final report and then click “Finish”.
