Fan modding on MeanWell RSP-1000

Many customer told us that the origin fan is very loud. Often we have been asked how to
upgrade the MeanWell RSP-1000 with a fan-control. So we decided to release a modding
note for this power-supply.

Security-notes
Please respect that this note is not a origin note from MeanWell. Each opening of your
power-supply will lead to expiring waranty. Please also respect only to open your power-
supply when AC and DC connectors are unplugged. Follow the general security guidelines
for servicing, modding and repairing electrical devices. 110V, 230V and high current may
cause human injury, physical damage or may lead to fire-danger if you do not respect
general security guidelines.

Step 3)
Disconnect both fans and lead the wires to your external fan-control.
Lead „red“ to +12V and „black“ to ground of your fan-controller.
Yellow is no longer required.
Your external fan-control must provide max. 12V DC-voltage to your fans and at least 1A
current for both fans (0,5A for each fan).

Step 4)
Locate position of thermal sensor and adapt the new sensor of your fan-control on the
outer side of your power-supply

Step 5)
Connect your fan-control to the power-supply.
Before connecting make sure voltage of supply is the same as your fan-control requires,
e.g. 12V supply for 12V fan-controller.
Close your supply, respect electrical securtity guidelines and start a test-run.
Please ensure that your external control will keep safe in cases of faults.
So don't forget to fuse the fan-supply.
If everything works fine check all screws, check all parameters of electrical security and
perform a final visual control.
