An Accounting Analyst evaluates public company financial statements. The statements include the
balance sheet, the income statement, the statement of cash flows and the notes to the financial
statements. Specifically, the notes to the financial statements contain considerable quantitative detail
supporting the financial statements along with narrative information.
Job Roles of a Business Analyst in Accounting


Responsibility for maintaining general ledger accounts, including journal entries,
intercompany transactions, account reconciliations and accruals.

Assist in the effective and efficient month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes,
ensuring transactions are in accordance with GAAP and internal policies and procedures are
followed.

Work closely with the business and finance teams.

Follow-up with the billing team to monitor timely billing to customers.

Research account variances on balance sheet and income statement for financial reporting.

Producing various accounting and financial reports.

Work with accounting, finance and operational personnel as well as with outside auditors.

Work effectively with large groups of data Prepare balance sheet reconciliations in expense
analysis for various accounts.

Perform monthly variance analysis in conjunction with departmental managers for the
operating budget Support budgeting and forecasting activity.

Develop/maintain invoice account coding process for all invoices Research, review, code and
approve invoice.

Month-end closing responsibilities including reporting and analyzing variances to budget and
forecast for the plant management team.

Assisting with the development of monthly forecasts based on production drivers and key
performance metrics at the facility.

Supporting the weekly estimate process through analyzing metrics & developing projections of on-
going performance.

Inventory control and reconciliation, including reviewing or auditing the adherence to cycle count
procedures and assisting with the annual physical inventory, and leading the plant GIP team.

Preparing economic cost studies for projects concerning new or existing products,
manufacturing processes, equipment, or facilities.

Responsible for the cost book for major plant projects ensuring appropriate policies associated with
capital, expense are adhered to and is in compliance.

Assisting with the annual review and audit of internal control procedures in order to sustain SOX
compliance and to manage and minimize financial risk at the facility.

Assisting with developing the annual plant budget including creating standards, and updating the
standards and period expense budgets.

Manufacturing operations financial analysis, including ad hoc studies for Senior Management

& evaluation of requests for capital expenditures & Lean cost reduction projects.

Track and monitor financial activity within newly acquired entities to ensure proper reporting of
intercompany transactions.

Responsible for working with management to identify and track acquisition related
transactions required within the scope of purchase agreements.

Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations for restructuring, intercompany, and
indemnification accounts.

Responsible for maintaining monthly and quarterly checklist to ensure all relevant accounting and
reporting tasks are complete and accurate.

Assist in analysis of complex transactions to provide support to business operations in
understanding financial impact.

Assist in documentation and communication of technical accounting research memos and
accounting policy interpretations.

Provide ad-hoc analysis in support of integration initiatives.

Identify process improvement opportunities and implement change initiatives.

Assist with special projects/tasks as required.
