Calculation of Lifting Reinforcement: CK 2 CTM 2 Yk 2 S

This document discusses the calculation of lifting reinforcement required in beams to transfer loads through indirect supports. It provides input data on the beam dimensions and material properties. It then calculates the shear forces from various load cases and summarizes the maximum shear forces along the beam. From this, it calculates the required lifting reinforcement as 224.8 mm2/m. It checks that the provided 16 mm diameter stirrups spaced at 125 mm centers satisfy this requirement.

Calculation of Lifting Reinforcement

1.0 Introduction

When a load is transferred through the bottom or side of a beam, as in the case of upstanding beam with deck
slab at bottom , adequate suspension/lifting reinforcement in the form of stirrups is provided in the beam to
transfer the load to the top of the beam. This document presents calculation of tension reinforcement required
to support hanging actions due to indirect supports. It transfers external or internal loads to compression zone
or in between compression zone.

1.1.1 Calculation of Lifting Reinforcement

Lifting up force = 108.4 kN/m

Area of reinforcement required =108.4*1000/(550/1.14) = 224.8 mm2/m

Figure-18: Utilization of shear force

Shear reinforcement for shear/2 + torsion + Transverse bending = 0.0 mm2/m

Lifting reinforcement/2 = 112.4 mm2/m

Dia of shear reinforcement provided = 16.0 mm

Spacing provided = 125.0 mm c/c
Shear reinforcement per leg = 1608.5 mm2/m
Hence OK
