2. What pedagogical advantage do the exploratory approaches/methodologies have over those of the
direct approaches?
The benefit of exploratory instruction is that, unlike direct instruction, it allows students to think actively
and independently. They must concentrate their minds and think critically during the learning process
because they are expected to come up with a new or different approach to a problem. This means that
students can learn to think critically by being encouraged to explore and investigate new ideas to find
connections between prior experience and unfamiliar material and concepts.
Activity 2: Differentiate
a. Indirect/Exploratory vs. Direct/Expository
Direct Instruction is in which the Instructor actively engages with the students and these items are
instructor led. An instructor sets specific standards and offers meanings or examples in the form of
a lecture. Indirect Instruction is in which the student is using tools they have learned to complete
an assignment, paper or project. This could also be reading of text or journal articles related to course
content. The instructor assigns further learning responsibility to the students.
The learners are given a general rule, which is then applied to particular language examples and
honed through practice exercises in a deductive approach. Before they practice the language,
learners identify or note patterns and formulate a 'law' for themselves using an inductive method.
II. Among these methods / approaches discussed which teaching methods / approaches you think will
develop higher order thinking skills or HOTS?
METHODS/APPROACH FEATURES/HOW
1. Integrated Teaching Learners build on their abilities and adapt them to new experiences at a
Approach more nuanced stage.
2. Problem Solving The students are required to observe, understand, analysis, find solutions
Method and apply the definition in an integral way. Thus, by facing the problems to
be resolved, students can gain new information.
3. Constructivist Learners are building skills rather than simply passively taking information
Method from the instructor.
4. Inquiry Method Students are actively engaged in the discussion in order to find answers
and create questions relevant to the subject.
5. Laboratory Method Students like to learn by doing and watching. Students take in the details
and put it into practice.

LET’S REFLECT
“A thousand teachers, a thousand methods”
Each teacher has different teaching methods.
Teachers are increasingly adapting their teaching methods to meet the needs of their students. They
are not simply finding information at a school, college, or university. Unfortunately, different conceptions of
learning needs can lead to a variety of learning challenges, pitfalls, and issues in the educational system. As
a consequence, it has a negative impact on graduating students' career growth. What happens if a doctor's
educational needs aren't met at university? The health-care system is broken. As a result, identifying learning
needs should become part of government policy in relation to all professionals' ongoing professional growth.
The most important criterion for successful teaching in the twenty-first century is that all teaching
methods must provide students with personal and social significance. They must be both intellectually and
emotionally involved in their own active learning or inspired to learn about the world and solve problems. In
reality, training students to excel when taking a test is no longer sufficient. Present educational policies that
place a high emphasis on testing must be seriously curtailed.
A teacher's job is to prepare a student for life outside of the classroom. It is only possible when a
person has the requisite theoretical and practical skills for good communication in modern society as well as
personal and professional growth. This is the only way to achieve a competitive edge in life. There are specific
teaching methods for each goal. When a teacher simply needs to present information, he or she may use the
lecture process. It is true that listening to a lecturer can be tedious at times.
As a result, other teaching techniques, such as interactive and participatory methods, are used to
supplement this approach. It's critical to promote student engagement and foster conversations that lead to
practical experience.
