Case Study 6

China and India have both implemented population control policies to address rapidly growing populations and poverty. China instituted a controversial one-child policy to limit population growth and lessen poverty, but it restricted personal freedom and led to unequal treatment of men and women. India introduced sterilization camps to test people for diseases and provide healthcare, but they may have violated personal rights and some feared forced sterilization. Both policies aimed to curb population growth and incentivize smaller families, but had negative ethical impacts like discrimination against women and potential human rights issues.

CASE STUDY 6: POPULATION, POVERTY, AND DEVELOPMENT: CHINA AND INDIA

The two largest country, where it’s population are extremely getting massive over and over,

so as the year coming the poverty grows and much than it is actually predicted by the economist and
the government inside the both country. China and India are well-known country whereas cultural

practices from their ancestors and legend back then are in still practice today’s era, no matter how
these things affect one another’s belief in their society. It is the sense of something grew and runs in

the blood, I might add and must practice in their cultures or else they were probably doubt and
suffers in the end for the not following those practices.

To begin with, after reading the China’s Population it seems like having this type of policy
that is being implemented in China is agonizing to see and hear. In my defense to that, based only on

my opinion, I have two theories about this one-child-policy. First, having this policy you are just
controlling someone’s life to sustain the things you think may actually help for everybody’s sake. I

think this is actually selfishness in a way that you just see things based on what you think is right, but
not thinking everyone’s shoes or situations that makes them satisfied to a life they’ve been dreaming

where in a fact they can support their children’s life by themselves as a parents. Moreover, what is
really caught me is the unequal treatment to men and women, whereas they would like if the child if it

is a boy to maintain and sustain the legacy or ancestors. Secondly, it may also be a help somehow for
the child’s life if they grow soon without the support of their parents. With that, this one-child-policy

will prevent and lessen the poverty of the country, in a way that they have only one responsibility and
obligation to do and to provide their needs and wants. Also, to make their life easy and a shelter to

live and a place to grow with their parents. The only good thing with this one-child-policy in China
was they are having a plenty of incentives such as medical care and educational support to the

families with one child. While to the family who has two children were treated unequal and neglected
or should I say less priority.

Furthermore, after reading the India’s Population, they were far from the horrible policy
and more on humanity I would assume. They introduced a sterilization-camp-policy “where people

were tested for various STDs and STIs along with pregnancy and health issues that could might be a
problem to the society” and because of the fact that, they were rapidly increasing population are
alarming to their country. This policy has the same incentives to the above I mentioned about China
wherein they were provided such things that will help in the family. But then again, I assumed this

would’ve been some negatives thoughts somehow where they were no actual right on their body to
control the populations. I mean just like my thoughts said, some of them are not privilege or

knowledgeable enough in regards with the policy so that, some of them are have hesitation. Some of
them were missing, nowhere to be found, abandoned and the worst is cold blood body or dead.

Also, they eliminate baby who are girls, by putting a handkerchief and let the baby couldn’t breath
and die in her own bed doing nothing and helpless, this so painful and horrible to know and see

things like this in these country. They witness how some men killed their daughters by strangle and
choke with their hands just like that. I never would have imagine killing my own offspring just to be

feel belonged to the society where full of this practices. In the end of the video I watched even
though it is not included, they even bury their eight children because she is a she. That is awful policy

in ever created.

In the finale, there is a realization of me feeling lucky and grateful that I wasn’t born in this

country, knowing I would never be dead and left-out. In my defense, I would have considered myself
ungrateful and unlucky seeing my daughters, nieces, burying alive and kill by men in front me

because of the policy that should and must be follow or else suffers from their merciless mind and
hand otherwise. I never would’ve imagine myself as boy growing up witnessing the girl feel such

neglected, abandoned, nowhere to be found or else die just because you are a girl.
