I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to attain the following:

A. Note and distinguish the significant details about Indian Literature;


B. Determine and differentiate the reading styles : scanning, skimming, speed reading and
intensive reading;
C. Present and share the significance of the article in the lives of the readers; and
D. Create and perform a task, aligned with the learners’ 21 st century skills, that depicts the
purpose of the article and influence the people in expressing their thoughts and feelings.

III. Procedure
A. Motivation

Everything has its own unique characteristics or qualities. This makes anything
more special and interesting as the characteristics will help unravel its importance and
significance.

In this lesson, the learners will be encouraged to share their ideas about the
characteristics of Indian Literature. To tickle the learners’ attention and curiosity, she will
instruct the learners to get the pictures placed under their chairs which will be used for a
#hashtag Hugot Lines guessing game.

As the lesson’s gateway, the learners will be encouraged to provide their insights
about the pictures. They should be able to describe each object’s characteristics and
importance in their lives. After which, the teacher will reveal that these objects in the
pictures originated from INDIA. A video clip will also be shown for additional information
about India. She will now ask the learners of the BIG QUESTIONS:

 How will our life be in Mathematics, Science, Languages, and Physical Education
if Indians and their written works do not exist?
 Why do we need to learn the small details about things?
 Why do we need to learn the characteristics of Indian Literature?
The learners will be asked to enumerate things/ experiences/ideas they have gained
from either reading or personal experiences that depict the answers to the big
questions. (Note: The teacher will provide several resources to choose from.)

B. Presentation of the Lesson

The teacher will associate the ideas/ answers of the learners to the lesson about
the Characteristics of Indian Literature. She will instruct the learners to get the pictures
under their chairs and post it on the board. The learners will be given time to speak their
mind out about the pictures. These pictures will guide the learners as they discuss the
characteristics of Indian Literature. (It shows literacy because the learners are
encouraged to share what they know that show how well-informed they are.)

C. Highlights of the Lesson


1. Pre-Reading Activity

A pre-assessment will be conducted to assess the learners’ prior knowledge about


the Indian Literature. This will be done using HAPPY and SAD EMOTICONS. The
learners will raise their HAPPY EMOTICON if they agree to the statement presented and
SAD EMOTICON if otherwise. The results will be recorded and will be checked after the
lesson.

After which, the teacher will provide comprehensive questions that will guide the
learners in getting the details they need as they discover and apply the different reading
techniques, such as: Skimming, Scanning, Intensive Reading and Extensive Reading.
The learners will also be given guide questions before they start with the reading activity.

1. Describe briefly the development of Indian Literature.


2. Explain the role played by religion in Indian literature.
3. Differentiate Ramayana from Mahabharata as to the theme.
4. How do several languages affect the development of Indian literature?
5. How was English accepted as literary medium?

The learners will be oriented and instructed that they will be given 1 minute per
reading item in order to find out the correct and most appropriate answers for the
questions provided about the Characteristics of Indian Literature.

2. While-Reading Activity

The activity will be called Round Robin Reading where the learners in the class
will only be given a period of time to transfer, sit and read the material posted on the
desk of their chairs; then they’ll move and do the same until the time is up for the whole
reading activity.

3. Post- Reading Activity

The learners will be divided into four groups representing the four reading
techniques. After five (5) minutes of discussion and brainstorming, each group will
present the answers to the questions assigned to them.

They should also be able to identify the topic sentence in each paragraph from
the lesson. They will be facilitated by the teacher for additional information and
clarification of ideas.

Practice one of the methods of skimming. Browse again the article about the
characteristics of Indian Literature and identify the topic sentence for each paragraph.

IV. Enrichment Activity


To enrich the knowledge gained by the learners, they will be instructed to create
a meaningful chart that will mirror the relevance of the lesson to the lives of the learners.
They will be encouraged to utilize their strengths, skills and talents to come up with a
creative and meaningful performance and output.
They will also be encouraged to showcase their outputs through singing,
dancing, poem writing, caricature/ poster making, slogan making and the like. The
learners may integrate their ICT skills in the presentation of their outputs.
This activity will be guided using a performance rubric.

V. Generalization
