Additional requirements, not included in
the 350 word limit of the proposal:

Bibliography (Harvard Format):

This section provides an opportunity to
record the initial research sources, both
primary and secondary, that you intend to
use. Your sources of research should be as
wide as possible and could include libraries,
galleries, books, magazines, films, computer
games, websites, blogs, social media, radio
programmes, archive material etc. Where
appropriate, you should use the Harvard
system of referencing. The bibliography
should be continuously updated as the project
progresses.

Project action plan and timetable:

This section provides you with an opportunity
to outline your planning and organisation
over a period of weeks and the activities you
will need to carry out in order to successfully
complete your project in the agreed time
frame. The more time and thought you give to
planning your project, the more successful it is
likely to be.

It is important that you consider how you will

balance ambition, time and realism in the
realisation of the project. You should also
include what you are going to do, how you will
do it and by when. Remember to include: time
spent sourcing materials and other resources
to conduct research, seek feedback from tutors
and peers, and identify when you will carry out
independent study.

The following pages will provide you with a

Project title
Abandonment

Section 1: Rationale
(approx. 100 words) Through my studies over the last year, I believe I have gained valuable skills relating to
art and design, specifically in terms of digital art and the creation of three-dimensional
form. Elements of my work need improvement, for example, maquette design and
experimentation stages. In my first project, I depicted 'creative passion' and how it can
be displayed. My second project focused on mental health (specifically that of
celebrities), my third 3D project related mostly to spirituality (I was exploring African
tribal art) and my most recent 4D assignment covered movement. I felt all these
themes related to abandonment - the ideas relate to changes in life (movement) and
how spirituality, mental health and passion can affect how you cope with them.

Section 2:
Project concept My project focuses on abandonment - what we abandon and why. I plan to approach
(approx. 200 words) this from two angles - personal abandonment (losing someone) and physical
abandonment (losing something). I want to portray the emotional strain of loss both for
those who are abandoning and those who are being abandoned. By doing this I hope
to shed light on the harsh reality of change, and communicate the impermanence of
life. My plan is to cover four specific case studies - Day of the Dead and dementia
(personal abandonment) along with refugee struggles and abandoned spaces (physical
abandonment). As well as this I will be researching eight artists, all of whom relate to
abandonment. My action plan includes, among other things, the use of online
exhibitions, interviewing refugees (the ethical issues of which I need to consider) and
photographing abandoned spaces. In terms of my environmental impact, I plan to use
recycled paper throughout the project for printed pictures and artwork. I also thought
about using natural dyes/inks where possible. For my final outcome I want to create
something universally understood - just like the concept of loss itself. To do this I could
create a picture book, a mural or a triptych - to name a few ideas.

Section 3: Evaluation
(approx. 50 words) At the end of each project element I plan to include an evaluation of the work I have
done, and what I plan to do. From this I will compile a list of concepts to bring through
into the final outcome. Throughout my project I will refer back to this list and on week 5
I will use it to revise my project outline. I also plan to conduct a peer evaluation on
week 5 so I can get an outside opinion for the revised outline.
