Welcome to the TLE 9 Beauty Care – Nail Care Services Self- Learning Module
on Benefits of Manicure and Pedicure Services!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the
K to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and

independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

LESSON
BENEFITS OF MANICURE AND PEDICURE SERVICES
Having manicure and pedicure once in a while from a salon is a must for
man and woman to have healthy and beautiful nails. Our hands need proper care
since we use our hands all day while working at home or in an office. Our feet also
need the same attention since we put so much pressure on them, they deserve de-
stressing and pampering.

Manicures and pedicures are not only meant for special occasions nor just a
way of pampering oneself. These treatments offer several of benefits other than
making them beautiful and clean.
 1. Boost blood circulation and reduce stress.
Apart from exfoliating, moisturizing and getting treatments for the cuticles,
manicure and pedicure services help relax the hands and feet. Manicure and
pedicure usually includes hands and feet massage. Massage is an effective
way to boost circulation and improve joint mobility. Poor blood circulation
may result to numbness and swelling of hands and feet as well as joint pain.

2. Enhance the well-being of the nails.

Development of fungi and infection are less likely to happen with consistent
manicure and pedicure treatments. On a daily basis, our hands are exposed
to a lot of outer elements and products. It’s a keen idea to have a deep
cleaning so the dead skin cells on hands can be removed and so with the
feet.

Buffing the nails doesn’t just make them look good and shiny but it promotes
blood flow to the area as well. Blood contains nutrients essential for the
protection and growth of the nails. Good nail growth can be a sign of good
nail health.

3. Keep hands and feet smooth and soft.

Cold weather can be harsh for some people who have sensitive skin. It is
suggested to undergo manicure and pedicure regularly specially during cold
weathers to help keep the skin smooth and soft. Crack and dry skin resulting
in painful scars and sores may be avoided if hands and feet experience
regular manicure and pedicure treatment.

4. Improves mental well-being.

It is amazing how your feet can make you feel so good about yourself when
you’re being treated and give you the real boost in confidence, along with the
feeling relaxed, clean and pampered.

5. Reduce back pain.

Callouses are thickened skin which is a result of repeated friction, pressure
or other irritation. These are often found on the feet because of frequent
walking and poorly fitting footwear. These can be painful and frustrating.
Furthermore, these may also affect your body weight distribution. During a
pedicure, a salon technician will exfoliate and deep clean the feet to minimize
and prevent these annoying condition.

Indeed, manicures and pedicures are not intended for aesthetic purposes
only. It has positive and nurturing impact on physical and mental health.
