FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT - Identifying Mis-/Disinformation

DIRECTION​: Identify the type of mis-/disinformation applicable to each item given then
provide each with a one-sentence explanation why such type describes the content. (2
points each)

1. The photo on the left claims that Vice President Leni Robredo brought the media
with her when she provided financial assistance to Gregorio family. In fact, the
photo was originally from the post of DSWD Region 3 when they gave financial
assistance to Gregorio family. Vice President Robredo is not the one in the
picture.

2. As early as February 2020, this photo circulated on social media of supposed
coronavirus-infected corpses in Wuhan, China. This, however, was a photo taken
in 2014, showing participants of an art project remembering victims of a Nazi

3. ​Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas released PHP16 000 000 000 Peso Bill to commemorate
the loss of the P16-B PhilHealth Funds. It features the face of the former PhilHealth
CEO Ricardo Morales, PhilHealth Logo and a mountain of 1000 peso cash.

4. A website named medsalert.ml, bearing the name and logo of the DOH, falsely
claims that fake cigarettes that spread coronavirus have been shipped to the

5. Viral tweets and rumors claimed that the Office of Vice President donated spoiled
food to frontliners at a QC hospital and allegedly bribed the hospital staff to keep silent
about it. The hospital released a statement days after, denying the rumors. Robredo

2. What’s good about having a journalist’s mindset in the time of the infodemic?
3. What efforts have been done by social media platforms and by the government
to address digital disinformation in the country? Have these been successful, and
why so?
4. Among the cognitive biases that were discussed in class, which do you think is
difficult to correct? Explain your answer.
5. Do you agree that “​All information is designed to deceive or manipulate people in
one way or another'​ '. Why or why not? Explain.
