Discipline
Discipline
A sense of discipline is needed in all employees at all level in the organization for
the smooth functioning of the organization as well as the achievement of the
organizational objectives. Some employees inherently possess this quality but some
employees need to be induced with the sense of discipline, and the manager must give
proper attention to this type of individuals to maintain and improve discipline in the
organization.
In the Philippine National Police (PNP) organization, top ranking officials are
greatly responsible for maintaining discipline in the organization and for this first of all
they have to strictly accept the rules of the organization and follow them so that police
personnel in lower ranks get encouraged to accept and follow the rules.
Negative discipline involves the use of external force or the threat of its use. Its
objective is to improve and challenge the delinquent to improve his behaviour as well as
to defer others from similar actions and maintain consistent, effective group of
behaviour.
Policy of discipline contains various do’s and don’ts for prevailing the behaviour
of those for whom the code is mount with a main objective to promote constructive
criticism at all levels of management and personnel as well as to avoid strike of work
and lawsuit and to secure the settlement of disputes and grievances and to facilitate a
free growth of trade unions and to maintain discipline in the industry or organization.
CONCLUSION
Discipline is a two way process. If the superior demands it from his personnel, he
should practice it too. Discipline is essential in every organization in order to attain
success and transparency in it. Discipline means sincerity in work, carrying out orders
and instructions of superiors and to have faith in the plans and series of the
organization.
