Q1. A firm’s own management cannot objectively evaluate its internal environment. Discuss your
views on this statement.

Strategic management is the art, science, and craft of formulating, implementing, and evaluating cross-
functional decisions that will enable an organization to achieve its long-term objectives. It involves
specifying the organization’s mission, vision, and objectives; developing policies and plans to achieve
these objectives; and then allocating resources to implement the policies and plans. Strategic
management seeks to coordinate and integrate the activities of a company’s various functional areas in
order to achieve long-term organizational objectives.
but when it comes to the evaluation of internal environment
i. every manager will say that their environment is foe better than other companies
ii. any employee will not dis close the flaws of their company
iii. to please the stake holders board the management will try to hide the draw backs of their
company and management
iv. sometimes management is corrupt so they will work on hiding their deeds
v. they will always show the positive side of their environment and negative side will not be

fundamental characteristics of organizations. Organizational data has many use cases, most notably
market research as well as the segmentation of sales and marketing prospects

1. Do you believe that the manner in which Steve Jobs runs Apple and Pixar allows these
two companies to maintain innovative orientations?
Steve Jobs also has his admirers. “Jobs is a real visionary, the kind who can change industries,”
says Jimmy Iovine. At Apple, he was seen as a leader whose brilliance and idealistic vision of
“providing computers as a tool to change the world,” drew other talented people to him. Steve.J
had an observant eye for details.is creative awareness, he was clearly a driving force an apple’s
success. He saved apple from coming the part of many failed companies, racking up its profits
and restoring its image. Pixer is high on success even they denied the Disney’s demands. Steve
was mark of excellence in everything he does. So in my opinion the way steve runs both the
companies is good and enough to maintain the innovative orientation

2. Of the four ways for an organization to adapt to its environment, what method do you
see Steve Jobs primarily using at Apple and Pixar?
Another way that an organization adapts to its environment is through a Strategic Response.
Options include maintaining the status quo, altering strategy a bit, or adopting an entirely new
strategy. ... Organizations may also adapt to environmental conditions by incorporating flexibility
in its structural design. he was using satisfying method because being stable in environment and
highly adaptable .

3. In light of recent technological innovations in the music and computer industries has
iPod and iTunes remained competitive?

In recent technological innovation in the music and computer industry the iPod has laid off from the
competition as trend for music devises has changed. iTunes are still in competition as they are up to
today’s market requirements. But iPod have lay off from competition as the trend for music devices
has been changed in recent years the music functions are provided by mobiles instead of iPods

4. Do you think Steve Jobs is effective at being an innovator or is he more of a promoter


of himself and his companies? Why?
Steve was effective as an innovator .he is also known as face of innovation. His leadership style
always motivated his employees to come an innovative and creative person. If we take the
example we can see that Steve changed the regular approach of a company to the functional
approach .this case is related to OD , managing approach towards the changing scenarios which
may show the organizational transformation

5. Will you interpret this case has any relationship with OD in what respect and why? Explain with
examples relevant to OD

In reference of of organizational development this case belongs to organizational change and


transformation .  Organizational transformation is the process of transforming and changing the existing
corporate culture to achieve a competitive advantage or address a significant challenge. It can be an
exciting time for any organization
As an example we can look that every employee of organization was important even steve said they hire
the people who can give ideas to them to boost up the company efficacy .it shows the change in
environment of a company

the main problem with company was their management system and their operations were not carried
out efficiently .their management team was nor creative neither the ambitious one .they were not
looking at the goals of company and not focused as well. They were not up for any new challenges even
their decision making skills were at disappointment level. if management is not good than it is obvious
that company will face losses.

Major alternatives which kamack company can take are ;


i. Change in management is necessary because the old management is not competent niter
focused .they are not willing to work for the betterment of company on the other hand
news members are required with advance skills who focused on goals
ii. Reports should be checked on daily basis or on weekly basis so that employees are
informed about their progress
iii. For leading a team out sider is hired so that he can lead the team without any favourism.

Steps taken by kamack company proved that if good managing skills are used that tables could
be turned around . in a period of one year they proved that the losses can be changed into
profits. They increased the sales of company, operations are now carried out so smoothly and
unit cost of products become lower. This shows that under a good leadership of Mr.yost the
company got back on track.

Recommendations
I. First one was to hire an out sider it’s because an outsider can evaluate the management much
skillfully then insiders
II. New managers were hired because new management teams was working efficiently while old
workers were not willing to work with mister Yost.
III. New management will bring new ideas
IV. And two departments were merged because it is easy to check out on less departments
