Validity and Reliability of the Guide Questions
Validity and Reliability are concepts used to
evaluate the quality of the Guide Questions.
They indicate how well the guide questions
measure what qualitative research intents to
measure. Validity is about the accuracy of a
measure and reliability is about the consistency
of a measure.

Validity and Reliability of the Guide Questions
Validity and Reliability are concepts used to

Processes to ensure the validity of the Guide
Questions
- Set up a team and assign a leader to
carry out the validation process.
- Check the format and style of the guide
questions.
- Consult Language Experts to check the
grammar points of the guide question.
PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1 (QUALITATIVE RESEARCH) SAMSUDIN N. ABDULLAH, Ph.D.
Processes to ensure the validity of the Guide
Questions
- Translate the guide questions to Filipino
language or local language if needed.
- Let Research Experts to check the overall
impact of the guide questions.
- Incorporate all the comments and
suggestions of the experts.
PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1 (QUALITATIVE RESEARCH) SAMSUDIN N. ABDULLAH, Ph.D.
Processes to test the reliability of the Guide
Questions
- Pilot-test the guide questions to the initial participants
of the study (These informants are not included in the final
participants of the study). Pilot-testing is a rehearsal of the
guide questions.
- Choose 5 to 10 people to test. These people have the
same characteristics with the possible participants of your
study.
PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1 (QUALITATIVE RESEARCH) SAMSUDIN N. ABDULLAH, Ph.D.
Processes to test the reliability of the Guide
Questions
- Ask all the initial participants with the guide questions you
prepared. If these participants have different responses of the
same question you ask, you need to revise your guide question
because it is not reliable. If the guide question cannot SATURATE
the data, it is not reliable.
- If the guide question can generate similar responses of
initial participants, it is reliable.
- If the guide questions are already valid and reliable, you
can start now the data gathering activities.
