This decision has been forced on me by the company’s decision to tighten

I hope, though that we will be able to resume our contract with you very soon and
in the meanwhile I will be more than delighted to recommend your services to all the
members of our business community.
If you could send me a set of your business cards, it would be most appreciated.

Drug users are actually ill people who need to be helped. Rehabilitation is one of
the main things that they should get. Instead of punishing them and filling up the
prisons with them, the government should provide rehabilitation for them.
Most users are actually victims of drug dealers and they suffer from consuming
the drugs. Therefore, by rehabilitating them, we are actually helping them out of a trap
they have fallen in. They, then, can start a normal life again. On the other hand, if we
only arrest drug users and send them to jail, it doesn’t solve the problem because the
drug users will still be addicts unless being properly treated.
Jails will be filled up with drug users. Moreover, the users will still be users
after being released from prison. They, then, will be arrested again.
By providing rehabilitation programs for drug users and forcing them to
participate in the programs is a better way than only arresting them and doing nothing
on to cure their illness. Moreover, prisons will not be so full and packed up with users.
Only drug dealers, traffickers and wholesalers should be imprisoned.

Learning English
Learning English through music and songs can be very enjoyable. You can mix
pleasure with learning when you listen to a song and exploit the song as a means to
improve your English. Some underlying reasons can be drawn to support the idea why
we use songs in language learning.
Firstly, “the song stuck in my head” phenomenon (the echoing in our minds of
the last song we hear after leaving a restaurant, shopping malls, etc.) can be both
enjoyable and sometimes unnerving. This phenomenon also seems to reinforce the idea
that songs work on our short and long term memory.
Secondly, songs in general also use simple conversational language, with a lot of
repetition, which is just what many learners look for in sample texts. The fact that they
are effective makes them many times more motivating than other texts. Although
usually simple, some songs can be quite complex syntactically, lexically and poetically,
and can be analyzed in the same way as any other literary sample.

3
Furthermore, songs can be appropriated by listeners for their own purposes.
Most pop songs and probably many other types of songs don’t have precise people,
place or time reference.
In addition, songs are relaxing. They provide variety and fun, and encourage
harmony within oneself and within one group. Little wonder they are important tools in
sustaining culture, religion, patriotism and even revolution.
Last but not least, there are many learning activities we can do with songs such
as studying grammar, practicing selective listening comprehension, translating songs,
learning vocabulary, spelling and culture.
From the reasons above, it can be concluded that through music and songs,
learning English can

Male chauvinism (men’s believe in male superiority) extends even into the area
of automobile driving, it seems. Believing that they are far better drivers than women,
men consider women drivers incompetent, inattentive and even dangerous behind the
wheel.

4
However, statistics prove that women are, in fact, safer drivers than men. For
example, insurance rates for women are 20 percent more than they are for men. Another
proof is that more accidents are caused by male drivers between the ages of 18 and 25
than by any other groups. Also the greater percentage of accident involving deaths is
caused by men. Although women are criticized for being too cautious, they are really
just being safe drivers.
The reason for women drivers’ safer driving habits can perhaps be found in the
differing attitudes of sexes toward automobiles as a convenience, like a washing
machine. On the other hand, men regard the automobile as an extension of their egos.
Using it as a weapon when they feel particularly aggressive or using it as a status
symbol.
In all, women are safer drivers because of their attitude. Men can learn to
become safe drivers if they adopt the attitude that an automobile is merely a
convenience.

15. We can understand from the text that …

A. men always criticize women for their bad driving attitude
B. women show their egos by aggressive driving
C. the statistic shows women drive the car carelessly
D. young women drivers get many accidents
E. Men underestimate women

16.”Men consider women drivers incompetent, inattentive and even dangerous behind
the wheel. (Paragraph 1). The underlined word means …
A. intent
B. furious
C. watchful
D. careless
E. indiscipline

Breaking and Entering is an unusual film. Will and Sandy are two architects working on
major urban renewal project in the King’s Cross section in London. The area is unsafe
and ready for such a project. Will and Sandy move their offices into a nearby vacant
warehouse.
Will has to deal with constant burglaries at his new office. One night, he saw
Miro trying to break into the building. He chased Miro to his run down apartment block
and watched him return home to his mother, Amira, a Bosnian immigrant who makes a
living tailoring clothes. Soon, Will ‘meet’ Amira and they begin an affair. And Amira
learns that Will hold the key of her son’s future. How far will this mother go to protect
her son? Breaking and Entering is a very interesting film, but it is almost entirely
character driven. This is not a bad thing although in the film we are exposed to a story
or action driven.
Anthony Minghella, the director, creates some of the most believable, interesting
characters these actors have ever played. It is almost painful to watch them on their

to the story. They are changing it.

Democracy is a form of government. The word democracy means rule by the
people. Abraham Lincoln described such self- government as government of the people,
by the people, for the people.
The citizens of a democracy take part in government either directly or indirectly.
In a direct, or pure, democracy, the people meet in one place to make the laws for their

Most modern democracy is representative democracy, in large communities
cities, states, provinces, or countries – it is impossible for all the people to meet as a
group. Instead, they elect certain number of their fellow citizens to represent them in a

representatives may be called a council, a legislature, a parliament, or a congress.
Government by the people through their freely elected representatives is sometimes
called republican government.

regardless of race, religion, sex, or social standing. It holds that everyone is equal in
