Beverly Hills. That’s because
most dyes use peroxide or
bleach to lift your natural color
(when going lighter)—both of
which suck out moisture along
with the color. And if your hair
is already in a compromised
state, or if you have “fine, tight
curls or spirals, which by
nature are super fragile and
dry, you’ll have to proceed with
even more care,” explains Kevin
Mancuso, a hairstylist and
trichologist for Nexxus. Ideally,
you should be consulting a
colorist anytime you want to
make a big shade change.
TRY THIS: It’s all about infusing
hydration back into parched
strands. How you do that and
what you use should be cus-
tomized to your specific hair
situation. For example, going
lighter strips strands the most

porous (i.e., weaker). To
combat this, use a fortifying

though INVIGOR8’s full meal replacement
shake cost more than many of the shakes I’ve
tried, it was about half the price of my favorite
salad, and the nutrition profile looked second

Wanting to know more, I reached out to a
few of the people who were talking about it on
trustworthy fitness forums. By the next morning
three people got back to me saying, “As a trainer
I love Invigor8. It’s definitely helped me to have
more all-day energy, plus build the kind of lean
sculpted muscle that burns more fat.”
“Yes, I’ll recommend it, it tastes great, and I
really like how it keeps me feeling full for hours.”
“I’m a marathon runner and a friend
recommended it to me. Drinking it has become
a part of my regular training routine, because
my time has improved, my energy is up, and I’m
thinking more clearly than ever before.”
I decided to take my investigation one step
further by researching the development of
INVIGOR8. I was pleasantly surprised to find out
that the company went to great lengths to keep
INVIGOR8 free of harmful ingredients.

and comfort of your other half.
Another thing to think about
is how you’re reengaging with
your partner after you return
from a trip. What’s the first
thing you talk about when you
walk in the door? Is it the list
of weekend to-dos you’ve been
writing while you were away?
Or the fact that the house isn’t
exactly in the condition you
hoped it would be? Those types
of conversations probably
won’t make you feel all warm

Be Careful with Rewards

Training your puppy to sit? Want
to teach your cat to come when called
(it can be done!)? That’s all fine,
but be mindful of how often you
reward them with something tasty.
“If your pets require several treats
to reinforce positive behavior, then
you may need to cut their food back
to account for the extra calories from
treats,” says Jonathan Block, DVM,
a veterinarian at the Worth Street
Veterinary Center in New York
City. Another option: Reward them
with nonfood items—like a game
of fetch or a nice rubdown.

Follow the 10% Rule

Veterinary nutritionists recommend
that no more than 10 percent of your
pet’s daily calories come from treats,
says Dr. Hohenhaus. For reference,
a 10-pound dog should eat around
400 calories a day, so she should only
be given 40 calories of treats. To help
stay within range, cut treats in half
or put the daily portion in a little
baggie. “This way, you won’t exceed
what’s allowed and everyone in the
family will have a chance to give
treats based on what’s left in the bag,”
says Dr. Hohenhaus.

Aging gracefully means

something different to
everybody. You have to have
your own opinion about it, and
that’s really all that matters.
For me, aging gracefully means
if something bothers me, I take
care of it—it’s only to look like
me, but my best version of me,
for me. I also think that you
could replace the word gracefully
with healthfully. Aging health-
fully is really what’s important,
and I think that means good
nutrition and to keep moving.

There is a certain stigma

attached to going to a
dermatologist to make
yourself look better. It is
OK to go just to say, “This
is bothering me—what do you
have on the menu that might
work?” There is no shame
in wanting to put your best face
forward—literally. [Brinkley
is a spokesperson for Ultherapy.]

We are usually our own

worst critic. Sometimes I say
to my kids, “I bet you anything
you could have a piece of
spaghetti stuck to your cheek
and people wouldn’t notice.”
People are just busy with their
own lives. Stop thinking that
everyone is paying attention to
you. Just get over yourself,
and get out there and enjoy.

When in doubt, smile. I feel

like a smile is truly the best
thing you can put on your face.
Just the action of it makes
