--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| RESULT(Index) | REMARKS | INTERPRETATION |
|-----------------|-----------|--------------------------------------------------|
| >=1.0 | Positive | Indicates presence of SARS-CoV-2 Antibodies |
|-----------------|-----------|--------------------------------------------------|
L
| <1.0 | Negative | Indicates absence of SARS-CoV-2 Antibodies |
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note
th
1. Positive test indicates exposure to SARS-CoV-2. ICMR does not recommend this test for diagnostic
purposes. It is only for Serosurveillance
2. Negative test indicates absence of SARS-CoV-2 total antibodies hence exposure cannot be
Pa
established.
3. Total antibody usually becomes positive after 8-13 days of infection & peaks around 21 days. It does
not differentiate between IgG and IgM antibodies & cannot identify the infection as recent or past.
4. False positive results may occur due to co-infection with other pathogens like Non SARS-CoV-2
Coronavirus strains such as Corona virus HKU1, NL63, OC43 or 229E.
5. False negative reaction may occur early in the course of the disease when the level of SARS -CoV-2
al
antibody is below the detection limit of the assay or due to variations in viral genes or in
immunocompromised patients.
6. Test conducted on serum.

Comment
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the causative agent of Coronavirus
disease 2019 (COVID-19). It is an infectious disease first identified in 2019 in Wuhan, the capital of China's
Hubei province. It has spread globally, resulting in the 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic. Common symptoms
include fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain, sputum production, diarrhoea, sore throat, abdominal
D
pain, and loss of smell or taste. Majority of cases result in mild symptoms while in a few cases it may
progress to pneumonia and multi-organ failure. The virus is mainly spread during close contact and via
respiratory droplets produced when people cough or sneeze.
