1. Describe the skills or attributes you believe are necessary to be an outstanding teacher, and
how you exemplify those skills.
Beginning with the conception of that students are products of their environment and that the
total environment will impact their academic success. This is very important because
independently of outside sources, it is the teacher who is responsible for all students’
academic success and equal opportunities. An outstanding teacher know that she or he has to
look at student’s classroom and school environment as well as neighborhood, home and
family situation. The teacher is as well, conscientious of the students’ diversity and how it
affects the learning behaviors of students, he or she knows that a wide variation of beliefs and
cultures is a rule in American schools today. Be aware of students diversity is very important
in foster students to respect each other and to make a cooperative learning environment.
Being aware of my own individuality, culture and including work from diverse cultural
background in the instructions is something important to me, to make all students recognizes
their own culture or belief as important to the groups social grow. In applying this belief to my
instructional practice I try to make cultural connections that are important in the life of my
students and that at the same time communicates important expectations regarding
behaviors and academic achievement. Also create a cultural sensitive environment in which
equity and fairness is the base of all learning activities. Another way is decorating the
classroom in that way that everybody feels include regarding culture, belief, ethnicity,
sociological and biological differences, learning modalities, etc. Promoting collaborative
learning is a way to get students to know each other and respect these differences among
them. Work for a cultural engage classroom where reflections, artifacts, projects, reflect all
the students and society backgrounds.
A teacher’s expectation will impact students’ achievement and success. To communicate high
expectations I work to develop classrooms’ instruction which I plan, deliver and evaluate,
carefully.
An outstanding teacher is a positive person who is engage in students learning. For me this
means to be a good listener and always be trying to understand and evaluate each individual
student’s needs and abilities to make adequate instructions for both groups and individuals.
The instructions should always be accompanied with a positive attitude, a condition for
individuals to take in knowledge without frictions. Because of it I always try, in my daily work
with students to be very careful with both, my body-language, and the expressions I choose
when speaking to students. In my daily practice I realize that welcome students individually
when they come in makes a big difference in how we will spend the rest of the day. Make eye
contact with them, smile and nod often, are some of the very significant details when the
teacher is in front of the students, as well as choose a vocabulary and phrases that increase
students self-confidence.
An outstanding teacher is always trying to understand the groups and individuals whose he or
she teaches in order to make good classroom managed decisions. He or she involves students
in community-like settings, where students can interact with each other, learn from their
peers, to talk about ideas or concepts, and learn to help others and receive help. To do this
possible, I try to group students for different kinds of work, by sometime mixing them up and
sometimes grouping them by ability levels. I try to use the group to reinforce positive
behaviors in students. Use rewards and consequences in effective way is very important for
me, so I try to involve students in the process of making classroom rules and making prompts
of them, and reinforcing our agreements by steadiness and constancy.
Manage the classroom time is very important to effective create a safe environment for
students discussion with non-threating communication between them. For me this means,
first, to be conscious of the environment, because of the impact it has in students learning.
The organization of the physical settings, materials, spaces, equipment is something I try to
have a good control of, as well as to have and organized system for Material Placement and
distribution’s forms. Second, with students’ needs in my mind, I try to make fast routines,
whenever it is possible, as well as have a control over activities’ transitions, in order to make
them smoothly and effective. I usually do this by writing on the blackboard about the
sequencing of activities, and the time duration of them, as well as other comments about the
books and important details that they could expect during this time. Maintaining them well
informed, minimize their anxiety and reward them with the feelings of control and safety.
An effective teacher knows how to work and evaluate students with specials needs. I try to
maximize this students’ participation with the rest of the class men depending of student’s
difficulties, sometime I will need to take individualized measures as reducing the among of
work, or assigning them more proficient partners. Working with IEP (individual education
plan), other specialists, and special education resource teachers can be a need to assure
students progress.
An outstanding teacher is also aware of the needs of the students with exceptional abilities,
knowing that they also need to improve their learning. I always try to have material with
different level of difficulties that can engage and stimulate their minds at different levels.
2. How would you differentiate the curriculum to address a wide range of skills in your
classroom?
3. 3. When your students look back on their school years, how do you want them to remember
you?
When I look back at my school years, I do remember different teachers for different reasons,
but the teachers who make me think about my life, they occupied a big part in my heart, even
today. Those teachers were the ones who teach me to think and dream and as consequence
they may me to take good decisions that were important for my future.
Later in my life a have learn that those who teach me knowledge were not as important in the
formation of my future as those who teach me, to understand myself my learning’s styles and
to help me understand that I am capable to learn everything if I insist enough in learning
something. Because of this experience I want
What I do remember most was that they were outstanding teachers but their impact in my life
was produce by the fact that they saw me as a person, and respect me and belief in me and
my ability in sincere manner. I could see that for them there was not difference between me
and them.
