Assignment 2

This physics assignment document contains 15 questions related to mechanics, motion, and uniformly accelerated motion. The questions cover topics such as: 1) Defining equations for velocity, distance, and uniformly accelerated motion. 2) Calculating initial velocity, acceleration, average velocity, and distance traveled for objects undergoing constant acceleration from various starting points. 3) Determining acceleration and retardation values from information about changes in speed over time. The questions require applying equations of motion to real-world examples like cars, trains, buses, motorcycles, and scooters accelerating, moving with uniform speed, or decelerating under braking.

PHYSICS ASSIGNMENT 2

Name: .
 ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS AND PROBLEMS YOURSELF:

1. Explain the meaning of the following equation in mechanics:

v = U + at where symbols have their usual meaning.

2. Deduce the expression for the distance travelled by a body moving with uniform acceleration
in a given time.

3. Establish the formula s = ut + 2 at2, where the symbols have usual meaning.

4. Write the three equations of uniformly accelerated motion. Give the meaning of each symbol
which occurs in them.

5. Find the initial velocity of a car which is stopped in 10 seconds by applying brakes. The
retardation due to brakes is 2.5 m/s2.

6. Describe the motion of a body which is accelerating at a constant rate of 10 ms" 2. If the body
starts from rest, how much distance will it cover in 2 s?

7. A train starting from stationary position and moving with uniform acceleration attains a
speed of 36 km per hour in 10 minutes. Find its acceleration.

8. A bus was moving with a speed of 54 km/hr. On applying brakes it stopped in 8 seconds.
Calculate the acceleration.

9. A body starting from rest travels with uniform acceleration. If it travels 100m in 5 s, what is
the value of acceleration?

10. A bus increases its speed from 36 km/h to 72 km/h in 10 seconds. Its acceleration is :

(i) 5 m/s2 (ii) 2 m/s2

(iii) 3.6 m/s2 (iv) 1 m/s2

Choose the correct answer.

11. A car acquires a velocity of 72km per hour in 10 seconds starting from rest. Find (a) the
acceleration, (b) the average velocity, and (c) the distance travelled in this time.

12. A motor cycle moving with a speed of 5 m/s is subjected to an acceleration of 0.2 m/s.
