1 Introduction
1.1 Scope
This Operational Instruction describes the procedure to replace a System Control
Switch Board (SCXB) in an Enhanced Generic Ericsson Magazine 2 (EGEM2). This
operation is used either in case of a faulty card or in case of availability of a new
revision of the hardware (spare part handling). This Operational Instruction does
not cover the procedure for replacing SCXB2 with SCXB3.
2 Procedure
2.1 Prerequisites
2.1.1 Conditions
The following conditions must apply before this procedure can be completed:
— The Managed Element Identity for the Relative Distinguished Name (RDN)
‘‘ManagedElement =<MEId>’’ is known.
2.1.2 Data
The following data must be known to complete this procedure:
— The physical position of the System Control Switch (SCX) board to be replaced
(subrack address and slot number).
— Product identity and revision of the Software (SW) and Firmware (FW)
modules to be loaded on the new SCX board.
— Product identity of the SCXB3 Board (or higher version). See the label on
the extractor handle. The product identity for these boards is other than
ROJ208386/2.
2.1.4 Documents
Before starting this procedure, ensure that you have read the following documents:
2.2 Actions
Check If the Board Is Ready for Replacement
1. Check the status of the blue Manual Intervention Allowed (MIA) Light
Emitting Diode (LED) on the SCXB to be replaced.
Yes
Go to Step 5.
No
Go to Step 3.
3. Prepare for manual intervention of the SCXB. Use parameters MAG and SLOT.
Note: MAG and SLOT were supplied as prerequisite data to this Operational
Instruction.
4. Wait until the blue MIA LED on the SCXB lights up.
6. Print the data of the board to be replaced. List all objects and attributes under
the relevant OtherBlade Managed Object (MO).
8. Is product identity of the spare board equal to product identity of the board
to be replaced?
Yes
Go to Step 15.
No
Go to Step 9.
9. Remove the entry related to the faulty SCX board from the magazine. Delete
the relevant OtherBlade MO and commit the changes.
10. Define the new SCX board for the same magazine and slot number. Create a
new OtherBlade MO, set attributes and commit the changes.
11. Check that the new SCX board is properly defined. List all objects and
attributes under the relevant OtherBlade MO.
Note: Check carefully that product identity and revision of the new board are
consistent with the data reported on the label on the extractor handle.
Yes
Go to Step 15.
No
Go to Step 13.
13. Remove the entry related to the new SCX board from the magazine. Delete
the relevant OtherBlade MO and commit the changes.
14. Redefine the new SCX board. Create a new OtherBlade MO, set attributes and
commit the changes.
Return to CP Mode
Note: The prompt changes from the CPT mode prompt: (cpt<) to (<).
Note: The prompt changes from (<) to the ECLI prompt. See Ericsson
Command-Line Interface for details.
20.
Do!
Remove all cables from front panel of the faulty SCX board.
Note: Mark cables to be sure that they can be reconnected properly to the
new SCX board after replacement.
21.
Attention!
Note: Before SCX board is to be replaced, ensure that the second SCX board
in the same subrack is in operation and all cables are connected. If
both SCX boards are disconnected, the traffic will be interrupted.
Do!
Note: In the very beginning of the power up of the board all LEDs on the
front panel will be lit up for some seconds.
22. Reconnect all cables to the front panel of the spare SCX board.
Note: This time is needed to complete the start-up phase of the spare SCX
board.
Note: The green LED on front panel could blink during this period. This is
normal behavior during SCXB start-up.
Yes
Go to Step 27.
Note: The green LED stops blinking when the board has started up properly.
No
Go to Step 25.
Note: This time could be needed to complete the start-up phase of the spare
SCX board.
Yes
Go to Step 27.
No
Go to Step 46.
27. Check versions of FW Load Modules loaded on the new SCX board. Use
options -m and -s.
Yes
Go to Step 32.
Note: This time could be needed to complete the start-up phase of the
added SCX board.
30. Check versions of FW Load Modules loaded on the new SCX board. Use
options -m and -s.
Yes
Go to Step 32.
Go to Step 46.
Note: See work order. Check both product identity and revision for all Load
Modules.
Yes
Go to Step 36.
No
Go to Step 33.
Note: The prompt changes from (<) to the ECLI prompt. See Ericsson
Command-Line Interface for details.
36. Check the version of the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI)
FW running on the new SCX board. Use options -m and -s.
Yes
Go to Step 39.
No
Go to Step 38.
Note: See work order. Check both product identity and revision.
Yes
Go to Step 42.
No
Go to Step 39.
Note: The prompt changes from (<) to the ECLI prompt. See Ericsson
Command-Line Interface for details.
42. Check the version of the software image running on the new SCX board. List
all objects and attributes under the relevant OtherBlade MO.
43. Is the running software product present in the value of attribute
currentLoadModuleVersion correct?
Note: See work order. Check both product identity and revision.
Yes
Go to Step 47.
No
Go to Step 44.
46. Consult next level of maintenance support. Further action is outside the scope
of this Operational Instruction.
Return to CP Mode
Yes
Return to the Operational Instruction that referred to this Operational
Instruction.
No
Go to Step 49
Job Completed
3 Additional Information
The BLUE LED is an indication for the operator whether the board can be removed
or not without affecting system behavior, as described in Table 1.
The GREEN LED is an indicator for the operator of the status of the board during
start-up and boot phases, as described in Table 2.
