REFLECTION FOR METHODOLOGY LESSON (205)
WEEK1
At the very beginning of the lesson, you made us recall first
lessons that we had as a learner and what were our feelings, our dreads, our first impressions about the lesson. By working sometimes in groups, sometimes in pairs and sometimes by thinking individually (I love all of them very much) we shared some positive and negative aspects of our first lesson, in addition to these, we talked about our dreams and dreads for a first class. What I learned were some actions that teachers would take in first lessons and underlying beliefs in teachers’ these actions. For example, the aim of teacher’s establishing a code of classroom conduct is to form good habits and to show the students discipline from the start. After discovering attitudes and beliefs, we moved on to the sample activities for first lessons. We evaluated each activity according to its aim, type of learner, etc. While evaluating these activities , I learned that we should take into consideration the activity’s aim, student’s age and level, type of learner before we, as teachers, decide to do an activity in the classroom. Furthermore, I learned that “words” , on their own, are insufficient for the students unless they are turned into “practice.” For example, saying to the students
“Just relax!” may not work but if you do a relaxing activity, they can feel themselves relaxed.
I had difficulty in figuring out nothing because everything
was clear enough to understand. I have already been curious about how my first lesson can be. Therefore, I listened to the lesson carefully and nosily. At the moment, I’m happy to have some ideas for my first lesson.
Because doing some activities in the first lesson and inviting
students to share a few of their favourite things are great way to break the ice, I believe I’ll use first lesson activities in my teaching, especially ball throwing for young learners. In addition, because how to break the ice or warm up the cold feet depends the age , level, interest, etc of the group with which we want to build a rapport, when I become a teacher, I’ll take into consideration student’s these characteristics. I’ll also keep in mind that each class is unique. I’ll pay attention not to become a bad teacher in the eyes of students but to become an idol for them because I know that they’ll remember me in that way in their future life. According to my belief, the activities that I’ll use in my first lesson are likely to set the tone for the rest of my classes. As a result, by using all this information in my teaching , I’ll try to leave a good impression with my students. Do you think that I can?
